Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday issued a warning to Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali for making derogatory remarks against journalists. The premier asked the minister to talk as less as possible and concentrate on his work. The warning came during the weekly cabinet meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Sources said the premier with a hum
our asked the minister about the reasons of media reports against him. In reply, Mohsin Ali told the cabinet that there had been two groups of the ruling party and the journalists were also divided into two groups, sources said. They made sarcastic remarks against the prime minister and finance minister to hurt me. Hearing the comments, I failed to keep my patience, he said. But I did not mean the total journalist community, he said, claiming that it was twisted. Taking the floor, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim humorously said that both the words khabish and rubbish are derived from the same region. Getting the explanation, the premier said you overcame mistakes after the writings. You smoked publicly and media published it. You later gave up smoking...It is good for you, she said, asking the minister to remain alert to avert such incident in future. Addressing a discussion at Sylhet Zilla Parishad Auditorium on Saturday, Mohsin said journalists are dirty chaps and of bad character and that they always misinterpret things and do not know how to deal with people. Amid a widespread criticism and demand of resignation, the minister on Sunday sought apology for his words.
