BNP desperate for ‘do or die’ movement by Jan:Daily Sun

BNP-led 20-party alliance will start the anti-government movement after December 16 for tactical reasons but it will not be long-lasting this time. The party wants to take the movement to a reasonable consequence at best by December and January. BNP evaluates that the loss of money and persons are more in protracted movement. About this, BNP leaders said that the next anti-government movement wil
l be ‘short, dynamic and effective.’ And its characteristic will be of ‘do or die’ nature. BNP is desperate for final settlement within January. When contacted, party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the upcoming anti-government will be all out. He said this time the government will be forced to accept the demand through effective and dynamic programmes. He said the movement has started through meetings and rallies. Within December it will take all-out shape. This time there is no opportunity to look back. Party’s standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said no alternative other than movement is open before BNP. The government was given one year time but they did not come to senses. Adviser to BNP chairperson Abdul Awal Mintoo said the upcoming movement will be short, quick and decisive. The settlement will be attained within January. Explaining the reason for beginning after December 16, BNP leaders said the government has largely hijacked December— the month of victory—through different programmes. They create such a situation across the country as if AL is the lone party in favour of independence. On the other hand, they carry on different activities to brand BNP and many other parties as anti-liberation forces. BNP leaders think that if the movement is started earlier the government will choose December 16 as a tactics to thwart the movement. According to them, the government may execute the death sentence of any of the war crimes convicts. Some of the alliance leaders feel that the death sentences have been kept in abeyance for political reasons. It will be used at proper time to damage the movement. They said Jamaat leader Kader Mollah was executed on December 12 last year. BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was arrested on December 15, 2011. The government selected December as political tactics to keep public opinion in its favour. Strategically, March, the month of independence is also considered as advantageous for AL politics. Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death on February 28, just the day preceding March 1. But BNP is not ready to wait till March. They want to ensure before that the success of the movement for midterm polls. According to sources, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will give call for a movement from a public rally in Dhaka before or after December 16. From that meeting, different demands including understanding for early election and ultimatum for dialogue for this will be placed before the government. However, BNP has prepared advance argument that if in the given circumstances the movement has to be dragged till March. Programmes for SSC examinations are there in February and March. But this time also, BNP is not taking into consideration the matter of this examination and public sufferings. Party leaders said the stance and version of BNP have already been decided on this issue. Although the last year was turbulent in movement, but despite that government claimed that every index of development was upward. They said in every field of development the government is successful. Despite tough movement, results of SSC and HSC were better than previous year. So, BNP has prepared an argument that opposition movement is not any problem for the country.
