Fakhrul, Moudud, 39 others charged:Daily Star

Detectives pressed charges against 41 BNP leaders including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed in a case filed for vandalism and blasting bombs on March 2 last year. ropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka yesterday. The IO claimed that he found "evidences of the charges" against the accused BNP men and prayed for bringing them under trial. One of the charge sheets accuses the BNP leaders of assaulting police, torching vehicles and preventing them from discharging their duties and the other for hurling cocktails at the police on March 2 last year. Police filed the case against the 41 BNP men and 1,200 unknown persons accusing them of obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, attempting to kill them and hurling crude bombs to create panic in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Bailey Road of the capital on March 2, 2013 during the BNP-led opposition's street agitation programme. The case was lodged the same day against the accused with Ramna Police Station. The IO prayed for dropping names of Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, and 20 others as their involvement with the incident was not found during the investigation. Advertisement The charge-sheeted accused includes BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Mirza Abbas; joint secretary generals Barakatullah Bulu and Amanullah Aman; and BNP Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman. BNP leaders Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, Jubo Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal former Presidents Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Azizul Bari Helal are among the other accused. The charge sheets will be placed before the court on August 7 for next course of action. All the charge-sheeted accused had earlier got bails from different courts on different dates.
