Kidnappers freed two brothers on Monday night at Malibagh area after they had been abducted from their house in Mirpur's Darussalam early Friday. The siblings, Omar Faruk, 32 and Firoz Sarder, 27, are book traders at Nilkhet. They said the abductors kept them in two separate dark rooms probably underground. The perpetrators told the brothers nothing about the cause of their abduction and also retu
rned their mobile phones at the time of release. They did not even ask them anything during their captivity. Firoz told this correspondent that the kidnappers called them by their names during the abduction. Many people witnessed the incident. The kidnappers blindfolded their eyes and tied their hands after they were taken into a microbus. They also covered the victims' heads in black cloth and asked them not to utter any word. Nearly an hour later, the vehicle stopped at a place and they were led down a staircase. The siblings found themselves in two separate rooms after their blindfolds were removed. The rooms were around 20 feet by 12 feet in size with no windows. Lights, however, were on in the room round the clock. They were given three meals a day. They had to knock on the door to draw the attention of the captors when they needed to go to the toilet. The abductors took them to the toilet covering their heads with black cloth. Firoz said he could not sleep for the fear of being killed. "I wanted to see my brother but was not allowed." Some of the abductors carried heavy weapons, he mentioned. They heard sounds of aeroplanes landing and taking off several times every day. They also heard Azan (prayer call). He said their captors, a day before their release, asked them whether they lived in their own house or in a rented one. They also asked if they had other businesses. Before their release, they were blindfolded and put in a vehicle. The abductors took the blindfold off, undid the ties in their hands and asked them to get down from the vehicle and leave. A case was filed with Darussalam Police Station on Sunday in connection with the abduction. Police took the brothers to the Detective Branch of Police after they returned on Monday night. The DB is now investigating the case. After interrogation, the duo were kept under the custody of DB police. Next day, they were produced before a Dhaka court where they gave statement under section 164. Police took them to their house on Tuesday night. The siblings started working at their book shop from yesterday. Inspector Anwar Hossain of DB police told The Daily Star that they were looking into the whole incident and the motive behind the abduction. Advertisement
