Four women pedestrians were killed as a truck ran them over in Dariarpar area of Burichong upazila in Comilla early yesterday. The dead are Salma Akter, 32, Monoara Begum, 45, Rasheda Begum, 50, and Jahanara Begum, 65. All of them were from Punnamati Noapara village of the same upazila. Police and witnesses said the truck crushed a group of women who were returning home after attending a Mahfil at
a nearby village under its wheels around 1:00am, killing one on the spot. Three more women were declared dead on their arrival at Comilla Medical College Hospital. Another three women injured in the accident are being treated at the hospital. “The driver fled with the truck immediately after the accident,” said Jahirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Burichong Police Station.
