People deprived of proper treatment in remote areas:Daily Sun

People living in rural, shoal and costal areas of the country are not getting proper healthcare services after Eid holidays as many doctors are yet to join their duties at public hospitals. The treatment being provided to people at the hospitals in the absence of physicians may be wrong and patients may fall sick instead of being cured after taking medication prescribed by non-clinicians. Hypert
ensive, cardiac and accident-stricken patients cannot get adequate emergency medical support at the government-run hospitals because of the absence of physicians and other medical employees before and after festival holidays, sources said, adding that they are supposed to stay at hospitals to provide medical services to save patients from cardiac arrest and severe injury or permanent disability. Many people, who suffer injuries in road accidents, require immediate medical support to save them from disability and death. During the absence of physicians, many patients go back without getting any medical service from the government hospitals. They are forced to go to private hospitals and receive medical services spending much money which is unbearable for poor and low income people, sources said. Public health experts of the country have expressed their concern over the unethical practice of nurses and brothers in the absence of physicians at the state-run hospitals because patients may die or develop serious side effects following the advice of non-clinicians. Dr Rashid-E-Mahbub, president of ‘Health right Movement’, said many physicians cannot go to the government-run medical college hospitals at the time of their duty but they are going to private clinics and hospitals for private practice to earn money dogging their basic responsibilities which is creating major obstacles to run the life saving sector smoothly. “Many patients die across the country for not getting proper healthcare services from the state-run hospitals at the right time they require,” he added. When contacted, Dr ABM Hannan, Director (Hospital) of Directorate General of Health Services, said some of the doctors take leave during Eid holidays but a good number of them stay at their service stations for providing medical services to the patients. “If doctors are not found at the hospitals in duty time, then they will be suspended for negligence of their duties,” he said.
