Stop killings on border:Daily Star

With Bangladesh putting emphasis on ending border killings and drug trafficking, a four-day director general-level conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) began in Dhaka yesterday. Taking consent of the bordering country before erecting any structure within 150 yards of the international boundary, preserving banks of the bordering rivers and halting
trans-border arms and explosives smuggling top the agenda. Apart from these, various security issues like trespassing by Indian nationals on Bangladesh territory and killing of Bangladeshi nationals in bordering areas are likely to be discussed during the conference, BGB sources said. BSF chief Shri Devendra Kumar Pathak is leading a 19-member Indian delegation while the 23-member Border Guard delegation is led by its chief Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed in the conference at the BGB Headquarters in the capital. A Joint Record of Discussions (JRD) is expected to be signed on December 29.   Advertisement
