Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute is a world standard eye treatment centre in which an eye operation theater of international standard was inaugurated on Friday with a view to providing quality treatment for the people. A doa mahfil was held at the conference hall of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute after Jum’a prayers under guidance of founder chairman of Bashundhara Islamic Research Center Faqihul Millat Mufti Abdur Rahman on the occasion of opening the most modern eye operation theater in Bangladesh. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Additional Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Safwan Sobhan, Mohammad Abu Tayeb, media advisor of the Bashundhara Group, Abul Kashem Shamim, DMD of Bashundhara Group, Prof. Dr Saleh Ahmed, president of Vision Care Foundation, and renowned child specialist Prof M. Q.M Talukder, among others, were present on the occasion. Bashundhara Eye Hospital & Research Institute is located at Sabrina Sobhan Road in Bashundhara Residential Area under Block-D which is operating by a group of noted ophthalmologists of the Vision Care Foundation. The hospital building, land, interior decorations and all air conditions are provided from Bashundhara Group. Bashundhara Group, country’s largest business conglomerate, has shown keen interests from their humanitarian ground in setting up such philanthropic, non-profit tertiary eye hospital to introduce one stop eye treatment services among commoners, especially for the poor and destitute. Country’s renowned ophthalmologist and president of the Vision Care Foundation Prof Dr. Md. Saleh Ahmed said that Bashundhara Eye Hospital & Research Institute was established in collaboration with Bashundhara Group as a philanthropic, a non-profit organisation with a view to bringing more poor and low income people under this eye treatment network. The hospital has started treatment services from April 2014 through modern medical equipment and investigations and more tertiary eye treatments have been opened from today by using this modern operation theater, he added. Cataract Clinic, Cornea Clinic, Vitreo-Retina Clinic, Glaucomo Clinic, Pediatric ophthalmology, Orbit and Oculoplasty, contact Lens, Low Vision Aid, X-ray and Imaging, Diagnostic laboratory, Perimetry, B-Scam Ultra Sound, Biometry, Pachimetry medical services are rendering to common people. Prof Saleh Ahmed added: Bashundhara Eye Hospital has introduced comprehensive spectralis treatment with FFA, ICG and OGT for the first time in the country beside this UBM service has also been introduced for the first time in the country for angel assessment of Glaucoma’s patients, including laser treatment like-Green, YAG and SLT. During doa mahfi, founder chairman of Bashundhara Islamic Research Center Faqihul Millat Mufti Abdur Rahman, said that Bashundhara Residential area is the only area of the country where establishment of any kind of infrastructure was started with a mosque. “Bashundhara Group’s contribution to the welfare of Islam and Muslims is laudable and this will increase in future gradually for the welfare of Muslims,” he prayed. At the end of the dua mahfil, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “Around 2 lakh people become blind every year in the country due to lack of proper eye treatment.” “We want to bring such poor and destitute people under our treatment coverage for the prevention of eye complications and blindness as well,” he added. “Our prime target is to ensure eye treatment for the poor and helpless people. The hospital building will be extended if necessary,” he further said. The Bashundhara Group chairman opined that serving humanity means serving Islam. Prof Dr Saleh Ahmed informed that there is ‘Zakat’ fund in hospital through which the poor and helpless patients can receive any kinds of eye treatments at free of cost. Any tertiary operations will be conducted at free of cost for the poor and ultra-poor people who will come to hospital, he added. “Around 20-50 operations are possible now by using this modern operation theater and special steps will be taken to bring the poor patients from rural areas by providing transport facilities,” he assured.
