The EC has announced the election schedules for three city corporations at a time when the BNP-led 20-party alliance has been continuing violent blockade and hartal demanding early parliamentary polls. Although the Awami League has made clear indications about supporting their candidates for the city polls, the BNP and its allies are yet to clarify their position. Meanwhile, as regards the possible deployment of army in the three city polls, the CEC said yesterday “We have conducted a number of elections without army. We do not deploy army if the situation does not demands. However, for the coming elections such a decision may be taken later on the evaluation of the situation. Before that, we will sit with the law enforcers.” In reply to a question, the CEC said the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will remain suspended in this election.
