Pakistan is in her heart,” The PM said in an oblique reference. She claimed her government is busy carrying out development work but the BNP chief is busy with destruction staying in her office. Expressing her grievances over BNP’s destructive politics, Hasina queried: Why would the commoners vote for the party that kills people in arson attacks. “Those who believe in development cannot vote that party.” People are observing Bangabandhu’s birthday at a time when they are being oppressed. “When trial of war criminals is being held for committing crimes against humanity during the liberation war, a party along with the human rights violators has been enforcing an illogical movement.” Listing her government’s development activities, the premier said the country’s foreign reserves now stand at over $24 billion. “Countries with strong economy face hardship amid global recession, but we maintain sustained progress. The BNP chief can’t tolerate it,” she went on. Senior AL leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Mosharraf Hossain and Syed Ashraful Islam, among others, also spoke at the event with the premier in the chair.
