Both Abbas and Khoka groups unhappy:Daily Sun

Storm of discussions and criticism are sweeping BNP over the question as to how far it will be able to go in building anti-government movement. It was said that BNP’s movement across the country including the capital will be strengthened if Dhaka city committee is formed. Now the city committee has been formed but the leaders and workers of the party are not that much happy, rather they are disa
ppointed. Even, BNP standing committee member and convener of the new committee Mirza Abbas himself is not confident. He has expressed dissatisfaction about the committee. Although party leaders and workers thronged his Shajahanpur resident with bouquets to congratulate him on his appointment as convener of the city committee, he did not talk to them with open mind and also did not receive the flowers. However, according to followers of Abbas, inclusion of larger number of supporters of Khoka in the committee has created some problem. On the other hand Sadeque Hossain Khoka and leaders and supporters backed by him were lacking interest in formation of the new committee. For this serious discontent and anger prevail among the followers of Khoka due to formation of the new committee. As Khoka is under treatment abroad they are refraining from expressing discontent openly but exchanging reaction among themselves. Leaders and workers of both sides are unhappy after the formation of the new committee. However, the supporters of Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel are extremely pleased as he has been made the member-secretary of the committee, according to different sources. On January 5, Awami League held a one sided election as BNP did not join it. Following this election AL formed government. BNP has now neither representation in the parliament nor any role in movement on the streets. BNP had thought that anti-government movement would be strengthened if the Dhaka city committee is formed. With this end in view BNP high command formed the new convening committee after long three years to make Dhaka city BNP more effective and organisationally strong. This committee is designed to make successful any kind of movement against the government. The committee which was formed 38 months ago with Khoka as convener and Abdus Salam as member-secretary, that could not strengthen the movement. Taking into consideration the long standing feud between Mirza Abbas and Khoka people from both groups have been included in the committee. Basically the party high command has taken the decision to strengthen the movement. Meanwhile, Mirza Abbas is unhappy over the inclusion of people from Khoka group in the committee. Recently, he had met Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office and submitted the names of the 31 member city committee. Discussions were also held over those members. However, even after that how the people from Khoka group could be included in the committee is the source of main problem. A group of leaders including Mirza Abbas and party’s acting secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a meeting with Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Thursday. At that meeting also the decision to form the 31 member committee was taken. But within a day a 53 member committee has been formed. In this committee, members from Khoka and Salam committee have been included. So the follower of Abbas could not be happy with the committee. Both the groups are holding meetings over this committee. Although they are blaming each other, are not speaking any thing openly. Journalists were waiting outside of the house of Mirza Abbas from morning to afternoon. But he did not come out of his house knowing that journalists were waiting for him. He came out from his house and entered his political room at 3:00pm when the journalists left his house area. Member secretary of Dhaka BNP Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel was present there. Sources said they both discussed the new committee of Dhaka city BNP that how was it and how would be the activities for next anti-government movement. In addition, different leaders and activists of various thana and ward could not greet Mirza Abbas with flowers despite their effort. Without receiving flowers, Mirza Abbas just asked them that how they are. His followers and the leaders of the party said Mirza Abbas is not getting confidence on the new committee as he did not react. The followers of Khoka will disclose it immediately if any strategic decision on anti-government movement is taken by meeting of new committee and that will be harmful for the party. They have expressed their doubt whether the movement will be successful or not. Just after forming the new committee several leaders and followers of Khoka held meeting at different places. A number of leaders sat for a meeting at the house of joint convenor Abul Bashar. After the meeting they contacted with the advisory council member Sadek Hossain Khoka in America. But some leaders greeted Mirza Abbas over telephone, said various party sources. On the other hand, after formation of the new committee some grassroots leaders of Dhaka BNP are now saying that if new convening committee is formed due to failure of Khoka and Salam then why Mirza Abbas and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel were not seen in the filed during the movement. Why the new committee was formed with the failed leaders? So, will the new leaders of the committee escape again to avoid the arrest during the movement? Sources said many of the leaders are now in unclear over the role of the new committee. Speculations are rife among the grassroots leaders over the responsibility of the advisors of the committee. Many of them have ridiculed regarding this issue as BNP Standing Committee member Brig. Gen ASM Hannan Shah and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah are included among the four advisory members. The two senior leaders have no involvement with the politics of Dhaka BNP. They will work in favour of Mirza Abbas. Besides, two remaining advisers are committee’s convener Sadek Hossain Khoka and member secretary Abdus Salam. A question has been raised as to how the duo will discharge their role as advisers as their failure prompted the BNP policymakers to form the new committee. Abdus Salam said they will help form a full-fledged committee of Dhaka city. We hope the new committee will include competent and dedicated leaders. Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, member-secretary of the new committee, said “We will discharge the noble duty bestowed upon us by Khaleda Zia. We will turn Dhaka city committee to an organisation suitable and strong enough to wage movement. We solicit blessings from all.” Those who got place in the 53-member Dhaka City Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced on Thursday last most of them are the followers of Mirza Abbas. Some followers of Khoka of the committee became silent due to demand of the time. Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Member-Secretary of the committee will be in the committee as a follower of Mirza Abbas. Among the six joint convener of the committee, Abdul Awal Mintu, adviser to the BNP Chairperson will try to remain silent about Khoka-Abbas issue. Other joint conveners cooperatives affairs secretary Salahuddin Ahmed, jailed assistant organizing secretary Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu are the followers of Mirza Abbas. Though Kazi Abul Basar, MA Quiyum and Abul Syed Kahn Khokon are the followers of Khoka but they will try to keep silent. Goyeswar Chandra Roy, BNP Standing Committee member is the first member among the newly-constituted 40 member convening committee who is also close associate of Mirza Abbas. Among the influential members, joint secretary general Aman Ullah Aman, SA Khalek, Abul Khair Bhuiyan and Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal are trying to maintain neutrality. Besides, Borkotullah Bulu and Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim may follow the Mirza Abbas path and other members of the committee will present their position maintaining confidentiality. The other members of the newly-formed Dhaka City Committee of BNP are Shahabuddin Ahmed and Abdul Latif (Kalabagan), Abdul Majid (Ramna), Anwaruzzaman Amwar (Tejgaon), Shasul Huda (Sabujbagh), Sazzad Jahir (Shahjahanpur), Ekramul Hossain (Shahjahanpur), Younus Mirda (Khilgaon), Bazlul Bashit Anju (Mirpur), Sadek Ahmed (FF), Ali Asgar Matbar (Fafrul), Nitai Cahndra Ghos (Sutrapur), Ahsanullah Hasan (Pallabi), Borhanuzzaman Omar (Paltan), Harun-or-Rashid Harun (Motijheel), Serajul Islam Seraj (Kalabagan), Golam Hossain (Sabujbagh), Tanvir Adel Babu (Paltan), Abul Hasan Talukder Noni (Shahbagh), Abu Motalib (Chalkbazar), Ali Imam Asad (Pallabi), Abdul Mohin (Mohammadpur), Abdus Samad (Kotwali), Hazi Altaf Hossain (Lalbagh), Farid Ahmed Farid (Jatrabari), Haji Mir Hossain Mir (Rampura), Ferdous Ahmed Misti (Shah Ali), Tanvir Ahmed Robin (Kadamtala), Sheikh Rabiul Alam (Dhanmondi), Kofil (Uttara), Arifur Rahman Nadim (Armanitola), Zafar (Bangsal) and SM Jilani. Among the 19 joint conveners of the committee, four were the followers of Mirza Abbas, member of the standing committee of BNP and rest of the members were the close associates of Khoka.
