Discontent over new city committee:Daily Sun

A number of BNP leaders and activists were unhappy about formation of the new committee of its Dhaka city unit under the leadership of Mirza Abbas in place of Sadeque Hossain Khoka. Party-insiders said a number of top leaders are also doubtful whether the new convening committee can make the party well-organized ahead of a fresh anti-government movement. Addressing a programme Saturday, BNP acti
ng secretary- general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Dhaka City unit of the party will be turned into a stronger one with its new convening committee. Talking to daily sun, Abdus Salam, outgoing member secretary on the last committee, said, “Madam can give charge to anyone anytime. We will cooperate with the new committee.” Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, member secretary on the new committee, told daily sun, “We have been given the responsibility for gearing up movement as the people want it to realize the demand for holding a fair general election under a non-party government.” The supporters of Sadeque Hossain Khoka are not happy and satisfied with the new committee led by Mirza Abbas. “We are doubtful whether Mirza Abbas can make a full-fledged committee in time and lead the next course of movement,” said a local leader. A source said Mirza Abbas is also not satisfied with the committee as many followers of Khoka were included in the new committee. On Friday, BNP announced the 56-member new committee with party’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas as convener and Swechchasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel as member secretary. The committee has been asked to form thana- and ward-level committees within a month and then hold a council for the formation of a final committee of the city unit.
