78.33pc pass HSC exams:Daily Sun

ent from last year’s 74.30 per cent. The results of the boards, including madrasa and technical boards, revealed that a total of 10,02,496 students came out successfully. A total of 11,29,972 examinees from 7,949 educational institutions participated in the HSC and equivalent exams in 2,353 centres. This time, the total number of GPA 5 holders has increased by 12,405 with 70,602 achievers. Last year’s holders were 58,197. The pass rate of students of 1,147 educational institutions is 100 percent while even a single student of 24 institutions failed to pass the exams. A per tradition, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with chairmen of the boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 10:00am. After receiving the results at Gonobhaban, the PM expressed hope that the country will achieve 100 percent pass mark one day. “The results are the proof of country’s progress in the education sector.” Later on, Nahid published the results through a press conference at the secretariat around 1:00pm. The minister said his ministry has achieved the numerical success in results but the government’s target is to attain world-class standards in education. “Educationists of the country praised me on various occasions for attaining landmark success in results and taking bold steps in returning discipline to the sector,” Nahid mentioned. However, he faced a volley of googlies bowled by reporters for the ministry’s failure to check question paper leaks during public exams. Wednesday’s results show that girls did better than boys in terms of pass rate. The percentage of pass of female examinees is 78.86 while the rate is 77.86 for male students. But male students made good results in terms of scoring GPA 5. A total of 38,787 boys obtained GPA 5 while 31,815 girls got the distinction. Madrasa Education Board is on top of pass rate as 94.08 percent students of the board became successful followed by Technical Education Board with 85.02 percent pass rate. Of the general boards, Dhaka is on top position in pass rate as 81.18 percent students came out successfully. Jessore Board made frustrating results with 60.58 percent pass rate. Group-based results show that students of science and home economics are on top list in pass rate and obtaining GPA 5. The pass rate is 82.93 percent and a total of 34,007 students under the group scored GPA 5. The pass rate in humanities group is 69.76 percent while 81.24 percent in commerce group. A total of 7,838 students of the humanities group scored GPA 5 while 15,944 students of commerce group also scored the same. The results further showed that domination of educational institutions of various metropolitan cities reduced astonishingly as many students in remote areas secured better positions this year. HSC exams commenced on April 3 and ended on June 8. By convention, the authorities concerned try to publish results within 60 days after the end of the exams. This year, the results have been published on the 58th day after the exams. Although the authorities are satisfied after publishing the results, academic high-flyers are in anxiety about getting enrolled in universities because of the cut-throat competition in admission tests and seat crisis.
