Girls outshine boys in HSC:Daily Sun

  Girls have done much better than boys in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations in terms of pass rate. The pass percentage of female examinees is 78.86 while the pass rate of boys is 77.86 percent. The total pass rate stood at 78.33 percent. Though the boys lag behind girls in terms of pass rate, they have done better in terms of GPA-5. A total of 38,787 b
oys got the distinction while 31,815 girls obtained the GPA-5 this year. According to the statistics of pass rate in the last four years, girls also outshone boys in terms of pass rate in 2012. The pass percentage of female students was 79.19 while pass rate of boys was 78.23 percent in 2012. After analysing the statistics of GPA-5 in the last five years, it was found that boys remained clearly ahead of girls every year in terms of obtaining GPA-5. In 2010, some 16,769 boys obtained GPA-5 while 11,902 girls got GPA-5. In 2011, a total of 21,742 boys got the highest grade while 18,027 girls got GPA-5. Some 33,168 and 31,638 boys got GPA-5 in 2012 and 2013 respectively while 27,994 and 26,559 girls achieved the highest grade in the same years. This year a total of 70,602 students got GPA-5 out of total of 1,129,972 examinees—600,089 males and 529,883 females—from 7,949 institutions across the country under the 10 education boards. The overall pass rate in HSC and equivalent examinations rose by 4.03 percentage points this year with 78.33 percent passing the examinations held under 10 education boards. The pass rate was 74.30 percent last year.
