AL accuses Khaleda of countrywide bomb blasts:Daily Sun

The ruling Awami League Sunday accused BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of the serial bomb blasts across the country on August 17, 2005. “She (Khaleda) was not only informed about it rather she extended full support for carrying out the countrywide bomb blasts,” AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam claimed while addressing a discussion at the AL central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital
. Dhaka city AL organised the programme, marking the 9th anniversary of the terrific attacks. Ashraf, also LGRD minister, said that it was the aspiration of Khaleda Zia to establish Taliban-and Al-Qaida-like militant organizations in Bangladesh. Directly accusing the BNP chief of providing support to the terrific attacks, Ashraf said, “Khaleda Zia wanted to form a Taliban-like organisation in Bangladesh. She tried to create a base for Taliban or Al-Qaida to create a panic.” “Khaleda Zia was the Prime Minister. We got a proof that she extended full support to them,” he said, adding that the grenade attack on the Awami League rally on August 21 was also conducted, maintaining the consequence. The AL spokesperson alleged that BNP has been working as an associate body of international militant groups. “The present leaders and activists (of BNP) are the beneficiaries of the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They believe in militancy till then and they believe in such ideology,” he said. About BNP’s threat of waging movement to realise its demand for a fresh election under a non-party government, Ashraf said that they would not get any benefit by issuing threats rather their movement would remain limited into the issuance of threats. He said that BNP will never award full secretary general status to its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir because they will award the status to Tarique Rahman. “Mr Fakhrul will not get anything. Nobody will be made secretary general of BNP until Tarique returns home. After his return, he will become the secretary general,” he said. Ashraf said that Khaleda Zia will try to make Bangladesh a safe heaven for terrorists if she is able to come to power in future. The leader called upon all to remain alert so that they could never be able to assume office. “They will not be voted to power if Awami League and pro-independence forces remain united,” he said. AL senior leaders, including Matia Chowdhury, Shahara Khatun, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MA Aziz, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, also addressed the function.
