Health and family welfare minister Mohammad Nasim Thursday said the newly-appointed doctors would get better posting if they serve in the rural health institutions for at least two years since the beginning of their jobs. Doctors must have to stay in rural areas to provide medical service for the poor people as they dont get free treatment from the registered physicians, he added. The ministe
r made the statements while addressing a job-orientation programme of the 33rd BCS doctors in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Thursday. Nasim called upon the doctors not to call any strike, leaving patients insecure and suggested, You will solve problems through dialogue. The new doctors have opportunity to do advance medical courses in future without lobbying, he said, urging them to change their mindset of staying in urban areas. The rural poor need free treatment and medicines from the government. Your (new doctors) main responsibilities are to provide them with free treatment, the veteran Awami League leader said. This time, thousands of physicians have been recruited to reach healthcare to the doorsteps and to fulfill the electoral pledge by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added. He further said: The health ministry will post over 6,000 doctors to different health institutions across the country within a week. In case of couple, they will be given posting in the same place. State minister for health Zahid Maleque said that health expenditure per capita in the country is 27 dollar. We have been able to spend four percent of the entire budget on health. Health secretary MM Neaz Uddin chaired the function where Mohammad Nasim was present as chief guest and Zahid Maleque as special guest. Director-General of the Directorate of Health Services Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Haque and Secretary-General of Bangladesh Medical Association Prof Dr Iqbal Arsalan were present as special guest.
