PM urges UAE to remove barriers to recruit workers:Daily Sun

  DUBAI: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday requested the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to remove the barriers to recruitment of Bangladeshi workers by the oil-rich Gulf nation, reports BSS. PM’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury and Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed were present on the occasion. The foreign secretary said the meeting was held in a very warm and cordial atmosphere, and the entire gamut of bilateral relations came up for discussion. Haq said the two prime ministers discussed various issues including boosting trade and investment, increasing cooperation in the fields of education and renewable energy and construction of a deep seaport at Paira, Patuakhali and 150 kilometer marine driveway from Teknaf to Mirersarai in Chittagong. The Bangladesh premier highly appreciated the UAE’s rapid development since its independence and said Bangladeshi workers were involved from the beginning in the uplift of the oil-rich Gulf nation. In reply Maktoum, also the UAE vice-president and ruler of Dubai, highly lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous development in socioeconomic field and leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Terming Bangladeshi workers as very sincere and labourious, the UAE prime minister mentioned that there are some ‘complexities’ and that could be solved through official-level talks. Sheikh Hasina highlighted the potentiality of Bangladesh’s resourceful maritime areas following settlement of the disputes with India and Myanmar on Bangladesh’s sovereignty on sea areas. She also informed the UAE premier of construction of much-awaited Padma Bridge by the government’s own financing. The foreign secretary said the two premiers agreed that a favourable atmosphere for doing business now exists in Bangladesh. In this connection, the UAE prime minister thanked Sheikh Hasina for the good business by the UAE airlines in Bangladesh. Shahidul Haque said a new horizon has been opened up for resumption of recruitment of Bangladeshi workers with the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Besides, he said, the tour has initiated a new era of cooperation in the fields of investment, trade and economic development. The foreign secretary said a foundation on multilateral relations between Bangladesh and UAE has been laid through the visit. Though Bangladesh and the UAE have been maintaining good relations, there was no multilateral ties between the two countries, he said. Haq also said a foundation has also been created to solve the problems existing in the labour market through discussion. About the two deals—-“The Agreement on Security Cooperation between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh” and “The Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners”—-that were signed between Bangladesh and the UAE here today, Additional Home Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed said the two agreements would play an important role in improving atmosphere of confidence between the two countries. “The two deals were inked aimed at boosting cooperation in containing terrorism, arms and drug trade as well as human trafficking,” he said. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after concluding her talks with the UAE premier and Dubai ruler visited Ras al-Khaimah (RAK) and joined a luncheon hosted by RAK ruler Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi. —BSS
