Even BNP leaders embarrassed:Daily Sun

Tarique Rahman Even the BNP leaders are unable to find out the mystery behind creation of series of controversies by Tarique Rahman through making derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu when there are so many problems in the country, including the planned anti-government movement in near future. They are very much embarrassed and in a disquieting situation. Taking different aspects into consideration,
they are in a state of dismay. It is said that somebody is misguiding Tarique Rahman. The consequence of this will go against BNP. This is gathered after talking with some leaders of BNP, including some policymakers. It is learnt that adverse reaction has been created at all levels of BNP over Tarique Rahman’s comments on Bangabandhu made in London. Most of the leaders and workers of BNP do not support that view. In their opinion,BNP is not being benefited from the comment made by Tarique. Rather the popularity of the party is declining at this. The party is trailing. Meanwhile, Tarique’s remarks did not appear to be acceptable to the civil society known as BNP supporter. Over this issue a wave of criticism against Tarique swept all day long yesterday. Negative evaluation of Tarique was revealed from talks with at least a dozen of leaders of his own party of various levels. But the leaders did not agree to make any comment on the second topmost leader of the party. BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and Brig. Gen. (Retd) Hannan Shah did not express any reaction. Hannan Shah said, Tarique Rahman himself will be able to explain best what he has said. When asked whether BNP is being benefited from such comments, Hannan Shah told Kaler Kantho, “I shall not make any comment on this.” Even pro-BNP civil society members are annoyed with the irresponsible comments being made by Tarique Rahman now-a-days. A question has been raised in the public mind as to whether Tarique Rahman is an asset or liability for the party, they said. They said a large part of the society is unhappy with the government. But they are also showing their back to BNP also due to imprudent comments by Tarique Rahman. Prof Asif Nazrul of Dhaka University termed the comment of Tarique as unacceptable, meaningless and devoid of truth. He said there is no scope for anybody to question the contribution of Bangandhu to the Liberation War. He called upon all concerned not to make such derogatory comment about other national leaders and sector commanders. Replying to a query as to whether BNP will be benefited from the comment of Tarique, he replied in the negative. It is out of question for BNP to get any benefit. Another civil society leader known as loyal to BNP declined to make any comment about Tarique Rahman. He is afraid of cadres of Tarique. He rebuked Tarique for making comment on Bangabandhu leaving many other issues of the country. Meanwhile, an Awami League minded intellectual said he also criticizes. But it should have some limit and decency. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had great contribution to the Liberation War. Prof Nurul Amin Bepari of DU told this correspondent, “I do not support Tarique Zia’s comment regarding Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the same time I believe that a vested quarter is insisting Tareque for making deregulatory remarks against Bangabandhu which destroys his image. Bangabandhu should be honoured because Bangladesh got independence in his name. But Awami League has started it. As Awami League leaders including PM call Zia as an agent of ISI, then BNP also uses derogatory remarks in retaliation. He also said that America has many fathers of the nation. They have no problem about it. Why are we facing problem here because we did not pay due respect to leaders like Moulana Bhasani. Advising Tarique Rahman to be tolerant, he said if Tareque desires to lead Bangladesh in future he should be more liberal. Former VC of DU Prof Emazuddin Ahmed did not make any comment against a derogatory speech made by Tarique Zia. But he admitted that now country faces manifold problems. Those issues are very important than political controversies. He will make comment after hearing from Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary general of BNP who was present in the meeting in London. Dhaka University Professor Dr Mahbubullah expressed his iability to say anything in this regard. Earlier, Tarique Rahman was criticised for making several comments on Bangbandhu from London. But it has been learnt that this type of comment was never accepted inside and outside of the party. Rather, from top level to grassroots all are thinking that the public support of BNP is declining due to such comment of Tarique Rahman. And Jamaat an allies of BNP are only being benefited. A competent source of BNP claimed that Tarique Rahman may have given such comment at the suggestion of a barrister, a son-in-law of Jamaat ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami as Tarique is maintaining a good relation with him nowadays. In addition, Jamaat’s assistant secretary general Barrister Abdur Razzak is now staying in London to avoid arrest. And he sometimes meets with Tarique. Many opine that he may persuade Tarique Rahman in this regard. Besides, a young team of lawyers, some journalists and former officials of Hawa Bhaban are moving around Tarique Rahman in London. Among those professionals many claimed themselves as the political researchers. It is learnt that the central leadership of BNP in Dhaka is too much angry on them. Many assume that some of the professionals in London are giving suggestions to Tarique Rahman to adopt the wrong path. Overall, Tarique Rahman is pushing BNP into backward position instead of forward, even BNP politicians are thinking.
