The secret meeting of some former and serving government officials with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office Thursday night has sparked wide controversy in political circle. Awami League leaders have termed the meeting as Gulshan conspiracy like the Uttara Conspiracy (Artisan meeting) organized by Mahmudur Rahman in 2006. The Thursday night meeting apprehend as a mystery due to the c
onflicting versions of BNP leaders themselves. On Thursday night, BNP chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan admitted that the former and serving officials hold meeting with Khaleda Zia. But, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir denied the holding of such meeting. It also created mystery as the participants of the meeting tried to leave the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office area secretly after the meeting. They also refused to disclose their identity and say anything to media about the subject matter of their meeting. Media reports said that ICT ministry’s joint secretary Ahsanul Huq, administrative officer (AO) Abdul Mannan, MLSS (AG) Mamun Hossain, Information ministry’s office assistant Sahidul Huq, Logistic department’s office assistant Abul Hasanat, LGRD ministry’s AO Md. Zahir, Directorate of Information’s office assistant Belal Hossen, Keypunch operator Lakit Ullah, IMD Md. Mujibul Huq, Agriculture Ministry’s personal officer Jahangir Alam, Textile and Jute ministry’s Nurul Islam, Local Government ministry’s Abdul Mannan, AKM Humayun Kabir, Environment and Forest Ministry’s Toha, Public Administration Ministry’s PO Badiul Kabir, Cabinet Division’s MLSS Mujahidul Islam, among others, participated the meeting with Khaleda on Thursday night. Meanwhile, ruling AL reacted sharply to the secret meeting and said that action will be taken against the officials according to service rules. Prime Minister and AL president at a press conference on Friday said that actions will be taken against those who hold meeting with Khlaeda Zia at her Gulshan office. “Law will take its own course of actions,” she added. The premier also asked Khaleda Zia to shun such secret meetings in the dark of night. “Please do it in the broad-light of day time if you have anything to do,” she said pointing at Khaleda. Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta also criticized Khaleda Zia for holding secret meeting with public servants and urged the government to take legal steps against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. He said that bureaucrats have hatched conspiracy to topple a legitimate government through holding meeting at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office in the mid-night. “They have violated service rules and Khaleda Zia has instigated them. As Khaleda Zia has also committed crimes, government should file a case in this connection with making her main accused,” the leader said while addressing a discussion at Muktijuddo Jadughar in the city on Friday. Surnajit, also a former minister, called upon the government to file case against Khaleda Zia by carrying out an investigation within Sunday. He suggested Khaleda Zia not to hatch conspiracies against the government or hold such secret meetings. “Rather, you should revamp your party. Your party and associate bodies are facing acute internal feuds and you should be attentive to solve the feuds,” he said pointing at Khaleda. Food minister Quamrul Islam termed the meeting as ‘Gulshan Conspiracy’ and said that such meeting will not bring anything good for Khaleda Zia. He said that BNP will not be able to come in power through hatching conspiracy from Gulshan office or lobbying to foreigners. “Rather, you should try to get public support for assuming in power,” he said. Claiming that Fakhrul and Maruf Kamal have issued contradictory statement about the meeting, Quamrul said that intelligence agencies will surely find out the names of participants who were present in the meeting. Meanwhile, state minister for public administration Ismat Ara Sadek told an online media that her ministry will carry out an investigation in this regard. “Government will not take it normally. It’s a matter of discipline in service. We will take departmental action if any official found guilty in investigation,” she added.
