Dhaka, Delhi ready for extradition:Daily Star

Bangladesh is waiting for India to fix a date for handing over Nur Hossain, the main accused in the Narayanganj seven-murder case, as all formalities have been completed. If Nur is handed over to Bangladesh, it would be the first instance in which a suspect is handed over to Bangladesh under the extradition treaty between the two countries. The home ministry sent a letter to the Indian external af
fairs ministry through foreign ministry on March 1 seeking date and time of handing over of Nur Hossain, who was arrested by Kolkata police for intruding into India, sources in the home ministry said. Talking to The Daily Star, Mozammel Haque Khan, senior secretary to the home ministry, said the fixing of the date depended on India. According to the home ministry letter, Nur might be brought through Benapole and he could be handed over to Mamunur Rashid Mandal, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Special Branch (SB) of Police, also the investigation officer of the sensational seven-murder case. Bangladesh's letter was in response to an Indian external affairs ministry letter received in December last year. The Indian letter mentioned that India was ready to send Nur back and India wanted to know when and where they could do so. Advertisement In June, 2014, Bangladesh sent a request to India urging it to return Nur Hossain. On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his driver, and three associates, lawyer Chandan Sarkar, and his driver were abducted and later their bodies were found in the Shitalakkhya river. Nur, the then councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation, fled to India. He was detained by the law enforcers in Kolkata on June 14 in connection with intruding into India. Around 17 people have made confessional statements in court regarding the murders and of them 15 were members of the Rapid Action Battalion. In a probe report submitted to the High Court on December 10, Rab said it found involvement of 21 of its men in the murder. Although over 10 months have gone by since the murders, police could not submit any charge sheet yet.
