After the terrible sufferings of 15 lakh SSC examinees, it is now the turn for 12 lakh HSC examinees who are set to face the similar plight due to mindless atrocities of blockade-hartal in the name of political movement by the BNP-led 20-party alliance. According to sources, some 12 lakh HSC examinees across the country are facing a grave crisis as their examinations are likely to continue for fou
r months if the political unrest and reckless blockade-hartal do not end. The schedules of the SSC and the equivalent examinations have been disrupted by two months of non-stop blockade coupled with staggered hartals on all workdays. All of the 15 lakh students have been forced to sit for examinations amid panic. Not a single examination could be held as per the schedule and all the examinations were taken on weekly holidays. The SSC examinations were scheduled to be complete by March 10, but exams have so far been held for 11 days only. Meanwhile, the BNP-led alliance is not showing any sign of refraining from calling hartal. Under these circumstances, the HSC and equivalent examinations are scheduled to commence from April 1. But if the situation remains unchanged, the exams will continue for four months. Educationists maintain that there is wide difference between the SSC and the HSC examinations. While the SSC examinations are held over 15 days, the HSC examinations take 30 days. Besides, admission tests in all universities are linked with the HSC exams. If publication of HSC exams results is delayed, then the varsity admission tests also have to be deferred leading to session jams in the universities. According to education ministry sources, HSC and equivalent examinations are supposed to begin on April 1 and end on June 11. And the practical exams will commence from June 13 and end on June 22. But if hartal continues like the present situation, it will not be possible to hold the HSC examinations in time as well. And if exams are to be taken only on Friday-Saturday because of hartal, 30 days of weekly holidays will be required. In that case, it will be difficult to complete the examinations even within the month of July. Because, the holy Ramadan and Eid are lying ahead and the city corporations elections may be held in the middle of the examinations. Meanwhile, HSC examinees are now apprehending disruption to the schedule of their exams. Their guardians are also worried. The students are facing various obstacles on preparations for examinations due to blockade and hartal. Taking into consideration the condition of SSC examinations, the HSC examinees are at a loss as to how to prepare for their exams on subject basis. (With inputs from Shariful Alam Sumon)
