Frame charges against accused immediately:Daily Sun

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday directed the local administrations to take immediate steps to frame charges against the accused in the cases filed for burning people to death during the BNP-Jamaat blockade. She gave the directives through video conferencing with top administrative officials of Sathkhira, Bogra, Joyourhat, Jhenadah, Narail and Sirajganj districts after a weekly cabinet meeti
ng at the Secretariat. The premier also asked the local administrations to continue mobile court and join drive to nab the anarchists in order to maintain country’s law and order. “It is essential to ensure security of people. Those who have burnt people to death during the BNP-Jamaat blockade must be brought to book,” she said. More than 150 people had been killed while scores of others injured during the BNP-led alliance’s three-month countrywide blockade and alongside frequent hartals. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, also a former premier, has been made principal accused in four cases filed for burning people to death during the blockade. “You have to continue the joint drive until security to people is ensured and have to take measures for speedy disposal of arson cases or the miscreants will commit such criminal acts,” she said, Peace has been prevailing in the country for the last one year after the January 5 polls but violence returned after the BNP-led alliance had enforced blockade. The BNP-Jamaat had enforced the action programme to press the government to hold midterm national election under a non-party administration. Sheikh Hasina asked the local administration to take measures to resist any attempt of the miscreants to carry out subversive acts in the name of movement. She also asked the local administrations to quickly implement the development projects. Laying emphasis on development of sports, Sheikh Hasina directed them to keep open space for the youths so that they play there. “A mini stadium will be constructed at each upazila across the country,” she added.
