MoU signed for 130km Indo-Bangla diesel pipeline:Daily Sun

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian state-owned Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) for setting up a cross-border diesel pipeline to import diesel from India. The pipeline will be set up between Siliguri of India and Parbatipur in Dinajpur at a cost of Rs 500 crore. “As per the MoU, BPC and NRL will establish a joint venture company
(JVC) to build the 130-kilometre pipeline project,” BPC Chairman AM Badruddoza told daily sun. “The JVA will be responsible for setting up the pipeline and supervising the maintenance and operations,” he added. The joint-venture will also prepare the guideline to sign a joint venture agreement (JVA) and sales and purchase agreement (SPA) relating to the pipeline project. “We will import 10 lakh tons of diesel from the India with premium,” the BPC chairman said. “We are hopeful to complete the project by 2016,” he added. An Indian delegation is expected to visit Dhaka to discuss the issue between April 15 and April 20, 2015. Numaligarh Refinery Limited would require 18 months to install the cross-border pipeline, according to a feasibility study carried out by the company.
