Coaching business goes on unabated:Daily Sun

Students and their guardians are becoming more dependant upon coaching centres, which are virtually promoting the coaching business and lessening the importance of schooling. Craving for the good results of their children, parents are more relying on coaching centres rather than schools for their better successes in the exams. Persuading the guardians of the students from nursery level to higher
secondary level, a section of teachers and persons are doing brisk business of education. With consents to guardians, students are rushing to the coaching centres after classes by seeing the flashy advertisements of those coaching centres that were housed on the rented buildings close to the schools. Festoons-posters and even the large painted advertisements of those coaching centres are pasted on the walls of the institutions. Guardians have a common allegation that the schooling system is not enough for their good results. So, they make their sons or daughters busy with the coaching centres. Arifa Alam, a guardian of a class-five student, said, “My son is weak in education, that’s why we send him to coaching centres. Teachers of the centres can take extra care of my son.” Sources said the parents of many students are busy with their jobs and have not got enough time to look after their children’s study. So, they have to depend upon the coaching centres. Teachers and educationists expressed concern if parents like to send their children to coaching centres, a section might take control of the whole education system. This control may put bad impacts on the country’s whole education. Monju Ara, principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, told daily sun, “Our guardians believe that schooling is not enough to attain good results. They are too busy sending their children to coaching centres.” She further said that a student can’t be weak in all subjects. They can easily overcome their weakness if their parents have spent some time on them at home. Motijheel Ideal School and College principal Shahana Begum echoed the same voice. They said education system is being dependant on coaching centres. Stopping coaching business does not change the scenario alone while it is needed to bring mental change in the teaching at coaching centres. Once, coaching was supposed to do in higher secondary or university admission tests, but it took such a shape that now the start of preprimary level, secondary, higher secondary, recruitment level is now dependant on coaching. Visiting Kalabagan area of the city, hundreds of students were seen to be busy with the coaching centres from dawn to dusk. The same condition also was seen in other areas of the city, including Ajimpur, Kakrail, Bailey road, Mohammadpur and Mirpur. In almost all cases, these coaching centres are being run by teachers of the well-known institution through violating the rules of the Education Ministry. The guidelines 2012 to prevent teachers from carrying out coaching business was promulgated on June 25, 2012 According to the guidelines, teachers of schools, colleges and madrasas cannot provide coaching and private tuition services for the students of their own institutions. It is stated in the guideline that a teacher will be able to teach 10 students outside from his or her own institution per day with prior permission from its head and he or she will have to submit a list of the students to the headmaster or the principal.
