Shakib Al Hasan Worlds best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who threatened to quit Test and ODI matches for Bangladesh five days ago, has been banned from playing all forms of cricket for the next six months. The cricket ace will not be granted a no-objection certificate to play in overseas competitions until the end of 2015. Bangladesh Cricket Board made the decision at a board meeting at Sher-e-Ba
ngla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Monday. Shakibs punishment came following his serious misdemeanour with Bangladeshs new coach Chandika Hathurusingha and also for his altercation with a spectator during the recent first ODI against India here. BCB president Nazmul Hassan said the board unanimously decided to suspend the 27-year-old from all kinds of competitive cricket for the next six months, ruling him out of Bangladeshs tour of the West Indies in August. Shakib will also be barred from playing in any cricket leagues abroad until December next year, he added. While talking to the media, the BCB boss said, Shakib has a severe attitude problem, which is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh cricket. We think his professional misconduct is seriously affecting the team. Shakibs suspension came as he reportedly threatened to quit international cricket after the player was called back to Dhaka before his planned appearance in the Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament. Hassan said Shakib was travelling to the Caribbean without any clearance from Bangladesh Cricket Board, and had also misbehaved with coach Hathurusingha. The BCB chief, however, gave no further details. This morning [Monday] he called me. He thought that he had the NOC, but he didnt have any. He admitted that he misbehaved with the coach. He apologised for the misbehaviour, Hassan mentioned. Shakib is our role model. He is like an ambassador. But Shakib said he doesnt care about others. I think we cant tolerate this anymore. We want to give a clear message: If such behaviour repeats, he might be banned for life. There will be no compromise when it comes to discipline, he concluded. Shakib, who for years has been the worlds leading all-rounder and is one of Bangladeshs finest cricketers, could not be contacted for his comments. The BCB chief said the player has a history of disciplinary problems and was banned for three matches in February for an indecent gesture to local fans. The ban kept him out of key Asia Cup matches. In June, Shakib beat up a spectator after the latter reportedly used abusive language against his wife during a Bangladesh-India match. On Sunday, Shakib returned to Dhaka and denied making any threat to quit international cricket. Shakib aimed to play cricket for another 10 years. Shakib made his international debut in 2007 and has been the most consistent performer for Bangladesh. He has played 34 Tests scoring 2,278 runs with a batting average of 37.96 and taken the countrys highest-ever 122 wickets while 134 one-day internationals scoring 3,835 runs and scalping 171 wickets. A left-handed batsman and a slow left-arm bowler, Shakib held the International Cricket Councils top all-rounder position for years. He also helped Kolkata Knight Riders become champions in the Indian Premier League twice and has featured in English county cricket. Shakib played all eight games for Barbados Tridents in the inaugural season of the Caribbean Premier last year, ending up as the second highest wicket-taker in the tourney. Apart from earlier disciplinary breaches during his international career, Shakib has had several run-ins with the authorities this year too. His infamous lewd gesture towards the camera during Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ODI series earned him a three-match ban. At the moment, a BCB disciplinary committee is investigating his alleged brawl with a spectator during the Bangladesh-India game last month. Shakibs threat is the first time that a Bangladesh player has openly spoken about leaving international cricket. He had set out to play for Barbados Tridents and was expected to join Bangladesh in mid-August for the ODI series against West Indies, which starts on August 20. Barbados last game of the season is scheduled for August 10 while the CPL final is on August 16.
