Faruqui, 3 others killed in city in two days:Daily Sun

  Within a day of the grisly killing of Islami Front leader Mawlana Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqui at his residence, three more people were shot dead and another injured at home in city’s Moghbazar area on Thursday creating panic among the people over the alarming deterioration of the law and order situation. y evening. Along with them another person also received bullet injury. The motive of the killings of the three persons was not immediately known. But investigating officer felt that Faruqui’s murder was preplanned. The Imam’s relatives claimed that at least two of the killers went to the residence of Faruqui thrice before killing him. Intelligence sources suspect that religious spirit and political feuds as well as personal and financial matters may have played role behind the killing. Investigation is proceeding keeping all these into consideration. However, alleged militancy link is getting prominence in investigation. Meanwhile, within 24 hours of the brutal killing of Mawlana Faruqui, an incident of triple murder took place in the capital’s Moghbazar area on Thursday night. Armed miscreants storming into 78, Sonalibagh near Moghbazar wireless gate under Ramna police station at around 8 pm opened fire indiscriminately leaving four people including a woman hit by bullets. As they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Bisti Aktar 32, Belal Hossain 22 and Munna 20 succumbed to injuries. Of the deceased, Bisti Akter is the landlord and Belal and Munna are tenants. Another person named Hridoy is also fighting for life with bullet injury. His condition was critical, hospital sources said. Police and family members of the victims said a gang of seven to eight youths led by local terror Kala-Babu stormed into the residence and committed the brutal killings. Abdul Majid, brother-in-law of the landlord Bistry Akter alleged that Kala Babu and his gang recently demanded Tk 2 lakh from Bisty as toll. As she did not meet their demand, they committed the brutal killings. About seven to eight months ago, Bisty bought the land and built up a tin-shed hut there. Officer-in-Charge of the Ramna police station Moshiur Rahmand said, “We are thoroughly investigating into the triple murder and trying to arrest the killers.” Meanwhile, soon after the brutal killings, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, IGP Hasan Mahmood Khandker and high police officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) visited the spot. Kamal said the culprits would be brought to book at any cost. Deputy Commissioner of DB Krishnapado Roy told the journalists that they had already collected evidence of the firing from the spot. As a sequel to old enmity over land, Kala-Babu and his cohorts might have committed the murders, the DCDB pointed out. The disputed land belongs to the railway, police said. Earlier, on Wednesday, Mawlana Faruqui was killed at his residence by unknown assailants. A case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana Thursday accusing seven unknown persons for Faruqui murder. Police already detained three suspects and are interrogating them. Supreme Court Jame Mosque Khatib and private TV channel presenter Mawlana Nurul Islam was chopped to death at his 48-East Rajabazar residence Wednesday night. Dhaka Metropilitan DB police deputy commissioner Nazmul Alam told Kaler Kantho that clear idea about the killers of Mawlana Faruqui is yet to be received. However, information received from the family and other sources indicate that he might have been killed in a planned way for religious and ideological feuds. Side by side, family feuds and transaction for sending people for Hajj performance are also being examined. ADG of RAB Col Ziaul Ahsan said just after the incident RAB started investigation into the matter. Although no clear idea has emerged, he may be killed in a planned way due to religious and ideological differences. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased said that the killers stayed at the house for about an hour after the killing. They looted cash money, gold and valuables and then left away. Although they threatened family members with pistol and revolver they killed Faruqui by chopping him. The killers kept Faruqui under surveillance before chopping him to death. On Wednesday night also, two persons met him thrice before killing him. They entered the house easily utilizing previous acquaintance. Later, eight more people entered the house and left it after accomplishing the mission at 9:00pm. At that time also, there was movement of the people on the lane and roads of whole Rajabazar area. The neighbours of Faruqui’s residence were busy with own works. Nobody could understand anything. After the killing, the miscreants adopted cautiousness while going out. It is believed that the killers committed this crime on the basis of previous plan. Maruf, an eyewitness of the brutal killing told Kaler Kontho, “I have seen some 7 to 8 people entering the drawing room. One of the youths pointed pistol at head of Faruqui’s while others kept a sharp knife on his neck and the rest of them held Faruqui’s hand and mouth. At that time the door was closed. At one stage, Faruqui was taken to another room of the house. Some youths entered that room of the house and kept hostage Joygun Nessa, mother-in-law of Faruqui’s and Sharifa, a house maid on gun point. Lubna, second wife of Faruqui was sitting in another room with two women who were waiting for Faruqui. After seeing youth, Lubna asked the youths who are you? The youths replied police chased us. So we entered this house. Please give shelter to us. When Lubna denied providing shelter the youths tied Lubna and two women and closed the door. After that the youths killed Nurul Islam Faruqui at dining room. Killers were able to leave the house completing their mission within one hour. Maruf claimed after the killing the miscreants took away Tk 1,50,000, gold ornaments worth Tk 300,000 and a costly Samsung camera from the house. Joygunnessa, mother-in-law of Faruki said, “Suddenly some youths entered the house and tied up me and house maid and took us to a room. At that room Lubna, second wife of Faruki and two women were sitting at the room. At that stage we did know Faruqui’s condition. When the youths left our house Lubna opened the door. By then everything was finished. Neighbours and owner of the house did not know anything while Faruqui was killed. Fatema Begum, close neighbor of Faruqui said, “We did not hear any sound when Faruki was killed. They knew it after the killing.” While visiting yesterday morning it was seen that still there was spot of blood in the freeze. The flour was also flooded with blood. Faruqui’s relatives were seen making hue and cry. His fans were also upset. The body was brought to Faruqui’s residence at Rajabazar after post-mortem at DMCH. Two face to face four-storey buildings located at holding number 174 besides Naznin School and College of East Rajabazar and IBA hostel of Dhaka University. Faruqui has been living at Rajabazar area in the city since 20 years. He used drawing room of the flat for operating his business activities. Faruki owned a business organization named Faruqui Tours and Travel. He was also a chairman of an NGO named Islamic Media Welfare Organisation. Actually he got popularity through a function “Kafela” aired by private TV channel Channel i. Once he was a kahtib of East Rajabazar Jame Masjid and later took charge as a khatib of High Court Mazar. Faruqui’s first wife Ayesha has two daughters and one son. Masud Faruki, elder son of Faruki is now living in Netherlands. Luba and Tuba, two daughters of Faruki are the Dhaka University students. Lubna, second wife of Faruki has three sons. Her elder son Reza Faruqui now is in Saudia Arabia and Faysal Faruqui and Fuad Faruqui, two sons of Faruqui are studying in Philippines and Dhaka Alia Madrasa respectively. Faysal Faruqui, son of Nurul Islam Faruqui lodged a murder case against some unknown assailants. Police detained three people relating to the killing case. They are: Rafiqul Islam, Mohammad Sharif and Mohammad Belal. Various organisations on Thursday staged demonstration in Dhaka and Chittagong in protest against the killing of Faruqui. The demonstrators demanded immediate arrest of the killers. Through a demonstration at Chittagong on Thursday, Islami Chhatrasena and Ahle Sunnat Waal threatened to observe hartal on Sunday if the killers are not arrested within Saturday. Demonstrators, loyal to deceased Faruqui, also were engaged in picketing at Muradpur, Sholosohor, GEC intersection and Oxygen intersection of Chittagong. They also vandalised vehicles in the streets of port city. Later on, they gathered at Chittagong Press Club to stage demonstration. Ahle Sunnat secretary general Mosaheb Uddin, at a press conference at Chittagong, vowed to hold a rally at Laldighi ground to protest the killing of Faruqui. Mosaheb also expressed suspicion that anti-Sunni groups and militants are planning to kill Alem-Olemas (Islamic intellectuals). In the capital, Ahle Sunnat Waal, Sunni Andolan Bangladesh, Islami Chhatrasena and various other organisations staged demonstration in front of Faruqui’s Rajabazar residence and National Press Club on Thursday noon. Sunni Andolan Bangladesh also formed a human chain and held a rally in front of National Press Club to protest the killing of Faruqui. Leaders of various socio-political bodies including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bangladesh Jatiya Imam Samity secretary general Abdul Khalek Nuri and Anjuman Trust vice president Mohammad Mohsin also issued separate statements protesting the killing. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved with the killing of Faruqui. Burial Today After the autopsy of the deceased at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the body was taken to his working place at private TV channel i where his first namaj-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers. His second janaza was held at East Razabazar Jame Mosque after Magrib prayers. Faruqi will be buried at his village home Panchagarh following the third janaza at the Jatiya Eidgah after Juma prayers today.
