Jamaat-Shibir alive on Saradha money:Daily Sun

After a lull of some days, Jamaat-Shibir men have gone militant again as they launched into acts of sabotage across the country through mobilising grass-roots activists secretly to foment unrest, intelligence sources said. Their unprovoked aggression began through hurling hand bombs and stones on two buses of Chittagong University teachers only three days ago. At least 14 people, including 12 te
achers, were injured when handmade bombs and brick chips and stones were thrown on the buses carrying the teachers. Nine teachers were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Five others, including the driver, received first aid at CU medical centre. CU Teachers’ Association general secretary Towhid Hasan said the buses were on way to the campus from the city centre. Some 25 Shibir men lying in wait in Hathazari area attacked the buses. “Chhatra Shibir called a strike. They attacked the bus,” teachers alleged. Of the injured, nine teachers taken to CMCH were biochemistry lecturers Sonam Akhter and Sunanda Baidya, applied physics lecturer Sabrina Alam, social sciences lecturer Fatema-Tuz-Zohra, management studies associate professor Shirin Ara Chowdhury, chemistry assistant professor Syeda Halima Begum, Islamic history lecturer Rawshan Ara Afroz, anthropology assistant professor Ashrafuzzaman and accounting student Amrita Nag. Lawmen have already arrested some 25 Shibir activists in this regard. On September 1, miscreants hurled bombs from a field at Chowdhuryhat targeting a shuttle train towards the university. A teachers’ bus was also damaged on September 4 in Pahartali area. On January 12, CU closed Shah Amanat Hall after two students died in a clash between Shibir and Chhatra League activists. Detective sources said Jamaat-Shibir men are preparing again to stage “violent demonstrations” for release of their top leaders charged with war crimes. Party insiders said Jamaat strongholds like Satkhira, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon, Sitakunda of Chittagong, Bagerhat, Gaibandha and Bogra will see fierce protests as soon as war crimes verdicts are given against party Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee. Jamaat sources said the party and its student wing Shibir have formed “action committees” down to the union level in each upazila. Every committee has an organiser and a financier. “Members of different committees of the party are often chased by law-enforcers. So, we have adopted the strategy of forming action committees with those who are not on any committee,” said a Jamaat leader. Top district Jamaat leaders are monitoring activities of action committees. Dodging lawmen, Jamaat-Shibir men are gathering in the name of milad and doa mehfil, seerat mehfil and study circles to prepare themselves for protests. Jamaat plans to stage protests in lesser-known places in districts to avoid police action. It launched a massive campaign to win support for Sayedee as party activists play his sermons in audio cassettes and show videos. Jamaat leaders have instructed its grassroots to get reunited and stage violent protests if the Supreme Court upholds the death penalty given to Sayedee by the ICT-1 for crimes against humanity during the 1971 liberation war. Earlier on February 28 last year, Jamaat-Shibir men had created mayhem in Satkhira, Bogra, Gaibandha, Thakurgaon and several other districts in protest against his death sentence. At least 33 people, including four policemen, were killed on that single day as Jamaat-Shibir men ran riot in 15 districts. RAB director (media) Wing Commander, Mufti Mahmud Khan said, “We are now more cautious about the Jamaat-Shibir men’s activities. With other law-enforcement agencies, RAB also mounted a watch on their activities.” Meanwhile, a Paschimbanga newspaper recently ran a news report involving a close rapport between Jamaat and ruling Trinamool Congress there. Alongside money, several consignments of firearms and explosives were also sent to Jamaat-Shibir men, it mentioned. The newspaper, Ananda Bazar, said Trinamool remains behind vandalism created by Jamaat-Shibir in Bangladesh. Crores of taka were sent to Jamaat leaders through a Trinamool lawmaker Ahmed Hasan Imran. AS part of a blueprint, a huge amount of money was sent to Jamaat leaders from India through the Trinamool lawmaker. Delhi already confirmed the Dhaka’s allegation, the press stated. But the lawmaker denied outright the allegation. UNB reports: Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party Siddhartha Nath Singh has said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee funded Jamaat and alleged that All India Trinamool Congress is involved with fundamental outfits. Mamata sent money taken from the scam-tainted Saradha Group to the ‘outfit’ in exchange for its help to influence voters in Bengal and win elections, Singh told reporters in Kolkata on Thursday. He said certain newspapers—both in Bangladesh and India—had carried reports on the issue, reports influential daily The Hindu on Friday. Quoting a Bangladeshi newspaper, which alleged Mamata’s relations with the terrorist outfit, Singh said: “Mamata has a relationship with Jamaat-e-Islami.” The story elaborates how the money from Saradha Group was stuffed into bags, smuggled into Bangladesh and the BSF’s activity was manned by Imran [founder of Bengal branch of Students Islamic Movement of India].” Singh said as per reports, Mamata’s links with Saradha Group went back to 2010 when she was the railways minister and had used the money to win the 2011 Vidhan Sabha polls and 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
