The government on Monday issued show-cause notices to three secretaries and a joint secretary, asking them to explain why departmental action will not be taken against them for using fake freedom fighter certificates in violation of rules. The public administration ministry served the show-cause notices on the four public servants whose FF certificates have recently been cancelled and also asked
them to reply within 10 working days. The four officials are health secretary Niaz Uddin Mia, former secretary of liberation war affairs ministry KH Masud Siddiqui, joint secretary of the ministry Abul Kashem Talukdar and Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary KM Amir Hossain. The ministry also issued a circular after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a proposal in this regard on the day. On September 22, the government cancelled the FF certificates of the four senior bureaucrats. The ministry also asked the cabinet division to take steps against former PMO secretary and incumbent Privatisation Commission chairman Molla Waheduzzaman as he is facing the same allegation. The government on September 22 also withheld the FF certificate of Molla Waheduzzaman. Canceling the FF certificates of the four officials, the liberation war affairs ministry wrote to the public administration ministry asking it to take steps against them. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, secretary of the public administration ministry, told Banglanews24.com that show-cause notice has been served to the four officials for violating discipline and rules. They (four officials) have been asked to explain why departmental action will not be taken against them for flouting rules, he said. In reply to a query, Abdul Naser said the cabinet division will consider Mollas case as he is appointed to PMO (enjoying status of state minister) on contractual basis. The government cancelled the FF certificates of the four officials as the Anti-Corruption Commission has found that they had collected FF certificates illegally to extend their service tenure which is scheduled to end this year. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the public administration has taken a move to make Niaz Uddin an Amir Hossain OSD (officer on special duty) A circular in this regard is likely to be published any time as the ministry has already completed the process to make them OSD. Two other officials Masud Siddique and Abul Kashem have been made OSD.
