Some trustee board members of North South University (NSU) allegedly swindled over Tk 200 crore from the university fund in the name of buying land with the connivance of Ashaloy Housing, a property developer. The swindlers showed the property price much higher than the actual rate and misappropriated the rest of the money, reports banglanews24.com. Sources said the money may be used to create m
ayhem in the country and finance militancy and crimes. But a section of the NSU trustees alleged that the money may be laundered abroad. Some members claimed NSU signed a deal with Ashaloy Housing to purchase 250 bighas of land at Tk 500 crore without inviting tenders. The incident created doubt among other board members who think the land-buying drama was staged to suck the universitys purse. After receiving the entire money, Ashaloy allegedly returned Tk 200 crore to seven/eight members of the trustee board. The money was given from the realtors account with a private bank at Banani. If transactions from July 24 to September 24 are checked, the dubious dealing will be detected, several trustee board members mentioned. They further said that some of their fellow board members withdrew Tk 189 crore from Ashaloy bank account and transferred the money to other accounts. They alleged that the price of per bigha of land was estimated at Tk 2 crore, whereas the same housing company is selling per bigha at Tk 9-Tk 10 lakh to other clients. Some trustee board members apprehend that the swindled money may be used for financing militancy and creating political instability across the country. They claimed the real fact will be disclosed if the last one months transactions of Ashaloy with the private banks Banani branch are checked. When contacted, trustee board member Yasmin Kalam refused to make any comment on the matter. Benzir Ahmed, chairman of NSU trustee board, rejected the claim. Terming the allegation false, he said the land is not sold at Tk 9-Tk 10 lakh now and refused to have received any money from Ashaloy Housing. Some trustee board members are spreading this rumour.
