The tourism sector is witnessing brisk business as a large number of tourists are visiting different tourist spots during the Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja vacations with the countrys political situation remains calm this year. Sources at different tourist spots said they are witnessing a heavy rush of holidaymakers on the occasion of Durga Puja and Eid ul-Azha. Most of the hotels, motels, resorts
and guest houses at different tourist spots across the country have seen full occupancy from October 3. Most of the tourist accommodations were pre-booked till October 12 to 15, according to the sector insiders and local administrations. High turnouts of local tourists were witnessed at popular destinations such as Coxs Bazar, Rangamati, Kuakata, Bandarban, St Martins Island and Sylhet amid a weeklong vacation on the occasion of Eid, the largest religious festival for Muslims. Other tourist resorts near the capital also got huge response from tourists during the holidays. Businessmen of the tourism sector said they have seen profits after couple of years as a prolonged political crisis has hit hard the tourism sector in the last couple of years. Tour operators also made huge profit by offering a number of tour packages during the vacation. K M Tariqul Islam, deputy commissioner (DC) of Bandarban, told daily sun that a large number of tourists have flocked to different tourist spots from the beginning of Durga Puja vacation making all the hotels, motels and rest houses in Bandarban jam packed. All the tourist residences across the districts have been booked from October 3 to October 18, he said, adding that tourists are also visiting the district to attend the traditional festival called Parbotto Lokoj Utshab scheduled for October 18. Due to political stability, a large number of tourists rushed here. We have taken necessary security measures to ensure safety of the tourists, K M Tariqul Islam added. Nearly 1 lakh tourists visited the beach city per day during the Eid vacation, said Mizanur Rahman Milky, a member of the tour operator association of Coxs Bazar. Most of the rooms of hotel, motel and resorts and other tourist residences across Coxs Bazar have been booked till October 11, he said, adding that they have seen heavy rush of tourist on October 8, 9 and 10. Mizanur Rahman Milky, also the owner of a hotel in Coxs Bazar, said they have seen profits this year after facing losses over the last couple of years.
