Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told parliament that the BNP-led alliance is not getting support of the people in unseating her government as people have confidence in the incumbent government. “Although they [the BNP-led alliance] have been issuing threats repeatedly for waging a movement to unseat my government, they are not getting people’s response,” she said while resp
onding to a query from lawmaker Prof Ali Ashraf. “They fix timetables for waging movement but they don’t get support from the people. “Does it not mean that they don’t have support?” she queried. Referring to threats from the alliance, Hasina said instead of paying heed to their plea, people extended support to the Awami League-led government. “They have confidence in the incumbent government and their support helps the administration take the country forward,” she mentioned. The day’s business began with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. Hasina asserted that people know that AL would be able to take the country forward since the party, led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman achieved independence through 1971 Liberation War. “Whenever Awami League comes to power, it works for the wellbeing of the people,” the leader of the House said. She said her government believes that a proper direction and long-term planning can take the country forward. “Our government is going forward taking full support and confidence of the people.” About the ongoing trial against war criminals and execution of the ICT verdicts, the premier said, “I pledged to try war criminals. I now breathe a sigh of relief as execution of verdicts has started after holding fair trial by the tribunals.” She said the countrymen extended support to try war criminals, although a section conducted a propaganda campaign across the globe to stop the trial. Hasina called upon her party lawmakers to look after the current development projects in their respective areas. Replying to another query, she told the House that her government has taken a plan to establish one multimedia classroom at each of the 39,907 government schools by June 2016. “Multimedia classroom will be set up at the rest of the government primary schools in phases,” she added. On the victory of Speaker Shirin and MP Saber Hossain Chowdhury in Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Inter-Parliamentary Union, Hasina said their election to top positions on two international forums have clearly proved that Bangladesh is being considered worldwide as a role model in establishing democracy and good governance. She also talked about the various state measures in reducing road accidents, increasing rice and food grain production, generating energy production and making rural development.
