Shakib Al Hasan All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan cruised into another milestone as he became the third player in history of cricket to score a century and take 10 wickets against Zimbabwe in the second Test match in Khulna on Friday. Shakib claimed 5-80 and 5-44 after making 137 to mastermind Bangladesh’s massive 162-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second Test in Khulna which gave the hosts an unbeata
ble 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The 27-year-old Shakib joined Ian Botham of England and Imran Khan of Pakistan as the only cricketers to score a hundred and grabbed 10 wickets in a match. Both the previous feats were against India, Botham doing it in Mumbai in 1980 and Khan in Faisalabad in 1983. Shakib is the third cricketer to achieve this success. “I had my eyes on this record ever since a journalist told me about it a few weeks ago. I was lucky and fortunate to have done it. This was not an easy wicket to bat on and the ball was turning a lot on the last day.“ Shakib said after being declared the man of the match. “I am glad to contribute to a series win, but it was a very good team effort. Hopefully we will continue to do well in the future.” Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim described Shakib as a special player for Bangladesh team. “We know why Shakib is special with bat, ball and in the field and all the young guys are inspired by him,“ the skipper added. Earlier, Ace all-rounder Shakib reached in new landmark during Khulna test day-4 as he made 137 in the first innings and finished with five for 80, became only the fifth player to score a century and pick up five wickets in an innings in the same Test more than once. England’s Ian Botham achieved the feat five times, while West Indies’ Gary Sobers, Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis did the task twice. Previously Shakib had made 144 and claimed 6-83 against Pakistan in Dhaka in 2011. Shakib who was banned for three months from all formats of cricket last June displayed a heroic return during the ongoing Bashundhara Cement Test series, flowing 10 wickets haul with a century at the same test match in Khulna. Shakib who made his Test debut in 2007 has scored 2,441 runs with three centuries and claimed 139 wickets in 36 matches so far.
