BNP is now scrutinising the candidates and will disclose the final decision at a time when the government will find it difficult to postpone the polls,” said a BNP leader. A number of leaders of the party said if the BNP decides to participate in the elections or extends support to its preferred candidates, the BNP-led 20-party alliance may postpone its ongoing agitation programmes. “BNP has all possibility to win the mayoral and councilor posts in the city corporation elections as the city dwellers are annoyed with the ruling party due to its misrule, repression, corruption and incidents of abductions, killing and enforced disappearance, prices hike of essential commodities and other irregularities of it,” said a BNP leader.
