Bus tickets available on black market:Daily Sun

Black marketeers have grabbed most of the bus tickets two days after beginning of selling advance bus tickets, causing sufferings to home-bound people. City’s private bus operators started selling advance tickets on 60 long distance routes from July 15 ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. Ticket seekers at different bus counters alleged that on the first day of ticket selling black marketeers with hel
p of dishonest bus staffs had taken most of the tickets. Nazmul Alam, a resident of Mirpur, said he went to the Sakura Bus Counter near the Gabtoli terminal for a ticket to go to Barisal on July 27 but he could not get it as the counter manager claimed “All tickets had been sold.” “I know most of the tickets have been bought by black marketeers… when I will come on 27 July, I would get a ticket by paying extra money,” he lamented. Another ticket seeker Kishor Roy said, “I have come here for getting ticket of 26 July to go to Satkhira, but failed. The countermen have hidden the tickets… they may sell those at higher price later.” Nazrul Islam, counter manger of Sakura Bus, said, “All the allegations of ticket seekers are not true as we have limited tickets.” Describing the way of selling tickets he said, “Out of 36 seats of a bus, 10 tickets have to be kept reserved for the bus owner, four for the law enforces and eight tickets to sell on on-line. It means that only 14 tickets we can sell from the counter.” Apart form the ticket shortage, some transport companies are charging extra money form ticket buyers. Kabir Hossain, a ticket seeker, said he usually travelled from Dhaka to Dinajpur paying Tk 600. But Hanif Paribahan is now charging Tk 630 for a ticket. Rejecting the allegation of taking extra money, Mosharaf Hossain, an official of Hanif Paribahan, said tickets of most of the northern districts-bound buses for July 24 and 27 had been sold. Now, passengers are buying tickets to travel on other days, he added. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) announced that it would start special service from July 24. Rafiqul Islam Talukder, Deputy Manager (Operation) of BRTC said BRTC’s 900 buses would transport passengers to different districts from Dhaka to different districts form July 24.The sale of its advanced tickets will begin from July 20. Besides, advance launch ticket sale begins today while train tickets sale will start from July 20.
