Maldives will recruit more physicians and nurses as well as importing more medicines from Bangladesh. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard Tuesday during the first day 32nd meeting of the Ministers of Health of WHO South-East Asia Region and the 67th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia in the capital. id Malek and State Minister for health of Maldives Hussain Rasheed signed the deal on behalf of the respective governments. Health Minister Mohammad Nasim and Health Secretary M M Neaz Uddin were also present at the MoU signing ceremony, among others. Under the MoUs, students from Maldives will also get access to medical education and advanced medical courses in Bangladesh. Besides, more Bangladeshi nurses and physicians will be appointed at various healthcare institutions in Maldives. Earlier in April last year, Maldives Health Minister Ahmed Jamsheed Mohamed met the health minister and expressed his countrys keen interest in recruiting more physicians and importing pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh. Praising growth in the health sector in Bangladesh, the Maldivian minister said, The health challenges the two countries are facing are almost the same. So, we should strengthen the mutual cooperation in this regard. He also lauded the professional expertise of Bangladeshi doctors working in the Maldives as well as the government initiative for boosting the pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh. The Maldivian health minister also urged the Bangladeshi authorities for allowing more students from the Maldives in medical and nursing education in Bangladesh.
