PM warns of stern action against anarchy:Daily Sun

Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday warned the major opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party of stern action if they try to destroy lives and properties of the people. “The government will not spare anybody if found in creating anarchy,” Hasina said while delivering an introductory speech at a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee at her official residence Ganabhab
an. Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, alleged that the movement of BNP and Jamaat meant killing people and destroying public property. She urged the countrymen to remain aware of the miscreants so that they can not run another round of mayhem. “They ran mayhem centring the January 5 elections and killed people and destroyed public property,” she said. Regarding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s threat to unseat the government, the premier said, “Though she has called upon the countrymen to unseat the government, she fails to understand that she has no soil under her feet.” Khaleda Zia at a rally on Thursday urged the countrymen to wage tough movement to unseat the government. The premier said her government has brightened the country’s image by winning two posts of the two international organisations. Two representatives from Bangladesh have been elected as the chairperson of Common Wealth Parliamentary Association and Inter-Parliamentary Union recently. “Winning two prestigious posts of the two international organisations within a week is a rare example. Bangladesh has created a new history,” she said, adding that it proved that the government made democracy firm-rooted. Taking a swipe at the critics, the premier said everyone, except some vested quarters, became happy over Bangladesh’s recent achievements. “I do believe everyone becomes happy with the success but a quarter which always looks for assuming office through backdoor seems unhappy,” she said. Bashing the BNP chief for her remarks that the middle income group turned into lower income group, the premier said she does not know how and where Khaleda Zia got such statistic. The premier raised questions about her counterpart’s wealth as her husband left only a broken suitcase. “How did she get so much wealth? Whether the broken suitcase become a magic box or she indulged in corruption,” she said, adding that Khaleda Zia called for hartal to delay the trial process of the corruption cases. Urging the countrymen to save the country from such cheat, the premier asked what BNP did give to the country. “They only awarded militancy, violence and corruption while Awami League established peace and developed the socio-economy,” she said, urging all to remain alert so that none could destroy the country’s prevailing harmony. After her speech, the premier sat for a closed-door meeting with the ALCWC leaders. The meeting was in progress when the report was filed at 8:40pm.
