AL to be on street in Jan to face BNP movement:Daily Sun

Awami League leaders on Friday said the leaders and activists of the ruling alliance will remain on the streets in January to resist ‘BNP-Jamaat troublemakers’. Addressing separate programmes, they asked BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia not to give threats of waging movement against the government because the ruling alliance will take control of the streets in January. Speaking at a national council o
f Ganatantri Party in the city, AL presidium member and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said it would be hard to find the BNP-Jamaat activists on the streets in January, as 14-party alliance men will take control of the streets. The activists of the ruling alliance will not allow BNP-Jamaat to create any anarchy and will also remain active in rural areas, he added. Nasim called upon Khaleda Zia not to issue threats as the government is not scared of her threats. “We, the 14-party leaders and activists, are pro-liberation forces while you [BNP-led 20-party] are Razakars and anti-liberation forces. So, refrain from threatening us,” he said. The AL leader said BNP-Jamaat will not be allowed to carry out anarchies like 2013, which they launched before January 5 election. Observing that boycotting election was a mistake of BNP, he called upon BNP to wait until 2019 for participating in another election. Addressing a press conference at AL president’s political office in Dhanmondi, AL publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud said Khaleda Zia will not be able to find out any path to come to the streets for waging movement. “You have issued threat that you will wage movement in January. You have issued such threats for various times in past. How you will do it? Your party men remain absent on the streets,” he said. Terming BNP ‘a burden for the country’, the AL leader urged the countrymen to remove the burden as the party [BNP] obstructs national development. Hasan urged Khaleda not to engage in giving reckless statements. Food Minister Quamrul Islam said BNP has no organisational power to wage movement. “If BNP leaders see the presence of police in front of party office, they sleep in their residence. How will they wage movement?” he posed a question.
