KMCH proposes creation of 1,851 new posts:Daily Sun

Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) authorities have proposed creation of 1,851 new posts for the manpower-starved institution to ensure better health services and smooth academic activities. KMCH officials have placed two proposals to the public administration ministry, mentioning that the existing manpower is not sufficient to provide better treatment to patients and carry out academic activ
ities smoothly. It was learnt from sources concerned that of the two proposals, one is for hospital activities and another for running the academic activities of the institution. Of the total 1,851 posts, Khulna Medical Hospital (KMH) proposed creating 1,268 posts while Khulna Medical College (KMC) proposed creating 583 posts. Authorities of KMH said that the hospital stated its journey 24 years ago as a 250-bed hospital. It was upgraded to a 500-bed hospital six years ago but its manpower has not been increased in the last six years. Superintendent of the hospital Dr Abdus Sattar told daily sun that they are facing difficulties in providing treatment to patients due to lack of heavy equipment and manpower. We have sent a proposal to the public administration ministry via health ministry to create 1,268 posts for our hospital to solve the manpower problem, he said. Abdus Sattar said the proposed posts include first, second, third and fourth class officials and employees. Sources said the health ministry sent the proposal to the public administration ministry on November 17 last year. But, the hospital authorities again sent a revised proposal to the public administration ministry a few days ago because the previous proposal required some corrections. The KMCs proposal to create 583 posts includes 324 first class, 49 third class and 210 fourth class staff. Currently, the KMC is running with only 141 professors, assistant professors and lecturers but it requires 324 more in these posts for running academic activities smoothly, sources said. They said manpower crisis is so acute at the college that Principal Abdullah Al Manum has to perform duties in three important posts. Abdullah Al Mamun told daily sun that they are facing difficulties in running academic activities due to shortage of professors, assistant professors and lecturers. The existing manpower was enough when the college started its journey in 1992 with 50 students in a year. But, we now enrol 150 students yearly. So, it is difficult to run with the existing manpower, he said. The authorities of KMCH said it will be a tough task for them to maintain quality in service if the government takes long time to create new posts. It was learnt that the public administration ministry called a meeting on November 30 to consider the proposal of KMC but it cancelled the meeting due to unavoidable situation. Sources said if the public administration ministry gives approval to the new posts, it will then go to the finance ministry for another approval. After the consent of finance ministry, the proposal will be sent for vetting by the law ministry. Then the government order regarding new posts will be issued at the final stage, official sources said.
