Over 100pc salary hike proposed for armed forces:Daily Sun

Armed Forces Pay Committee has placed its recommendations for a hike in salary structures for members of the armed forces in consistent with the latest proposals of Pay and Services Commission. The AFPC proposes 16 grades of salary structures with highest Tk 1 lakh basic pay for the chief of the armed forces and lowest Tk 8,200 for non-combatant (civil staffs) employees. For lieutenant generals a
nd major generals, the proposed scale is Tk 88,000 and Tk 80,000 per month respectively. Finance Minister AMA Muhith received the AFPC report from Lt Gen Anwar Hossain at the former’s secretariat office on Thursday. Later, Muhith told reporters that pay hike for the armed forces will be inconsistent with civil servants’ salary structures considering ranks and badges. “I haven’t seen the full report yet. So, I can’t many any comment now. But it’ll be inconsistent with the pay commission’s recommendations.” During the handover of the report, AFPC head Anwar said committee members have talked to the grass roots of the armed forces and exchanged opinions with civil servants and pay commission before finalising the recommendations. The proposed pay hike for non-commissioned, junior commissioned and commissioned officers has been done as per the pay commission’s recommendations. “We have proposed a hike in pay and a rise in other amenities with justification,” the military officer went on. He said special allowances and/or incentives have been proposed in the recommendations for commandos, para-commandos, paratroops and snipers. “In the recommendations, we’ve also proposed even house rent facility irrespective of urban-rural areas so that members of the armed forces show interest to get posted in remote areas as well.” The eight-member AFPC was formed on January 27 last year. It included the chiefs of army, navy and air forces and the joint secretary of defence ministry. Meanwhile, the government formed Pay and Services Commission on November 24 with former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Mohammad Farasuddin as its head to recommend new pay structures for civil servants. The commission submitted its full report to the finance minister on December 21 with a charter of recommendations.
