BNP movement wont succeed: PM Hinting at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she (Khaleda) would not be successful with her:Daily Sun

Hinting at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she (Khaleda) would not be successful with her ongoing anti-government movement. “You’ve been doing political struggle for the last 81 days, but you’ve failed with your movement. As you couldn’t do anything in so many days, you won’t succeed in future,” she said scathingly. “People don’t lend support to the movement,” th
e premier made the remarks while addressing a discussion organised by the ruling Awami League at Agriculture Institute in the capital on Friday, marking Independence Day. The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been observing countrywide blockade and strike action since January 5 to press the government for midterm polls under a non-partisan set-up. Hasina alleged that Khaleda has been killing people like the Pakistanis with the help of Jamaat. “She’s been staying in office, but for what? Everybody has left her. She’s become alone. It seems she won’t return home until killing me,” the PM said, adding that her government will not allow militancy in the country. Hinting at civil-society members, Hasina said conscious people would not support acts of killing people in arson. “An intellectual with a minimum sense of conscience and humanity won’t cast his ballot for anarchists.” Taking a swipe at some civil-society patrons, she said a quarter always plots only to hinder the country’s progress. “They always find ways to assume office through loopholes.” The PM claimed the BNP chief does not believe in the country’s independence. “As she doesn’t believe in independence, she didn’t go to the National Memorial to pay her respects to the martyrs.” Khaleda even did not go to the Central Shaheed Minar, she went on. Hasina said the country achieved independence with the supreme sacrifices of millions of brave Bangalees. “So, we won’t allow anyone to play ducks and drakes with the fate of the people.” About BNP’s boycott of the last general election, she said, “You’ve made a mistake by not participating in the last polls. Why will the people pay the price for your mistake, rather you have to pay the price for the mistake?” Listing her government’s development activities, the premier said the country makes progress as Awami League does politics for the people. Senior AL leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, among others, also spoke at the event with the premier in the chair.
