At last, the long-awaited charge sheet in the sensational Narayanganj seven murder case has been submitted, accusing 35 people, including councillor Nur Hossain and three dismissed officers of the armed forces -- Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, Arif Hossain and MM Rana. The accused included 25 RAB personnel. The charge sheet was submitted on Wednesday to the chief judicial magistrate’s court by Narayanganj
Detective Branch Officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid Mondol, who is the investigation officer of the case. In the charge sheet submitted after 11 months of the grisly murders, 16 accused, including five FIR-named people, were exonerated from the case. As many as 13 of the charge-sheeted accused are absconding. Accused Nur Hossain is now in custody in India while the three former officers of the armed forces are detained in jail at home. The prosecution lawyer Sakhawat Hossain Khan said after the filing of the charge sheet, the court of Narayanganj senior judicial magistrate Chandni Rupam fixed May 11 as the date for hearing on the case. In the charge sheet, 35 people have been made accused while 127 have been named as witnesses. On April 27, 2014 an organised gang abducted seven people, including panel mayor Nazrul Islam and advocate Chandan Kumar Sarkar, from the Narayanganj court area. Three days later, the partially decomposed bodies of the victims were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river. Relatives of Nazrul and Chandan filed two separate cases in connection with the incident. On May 4 last year, Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that some senior RAB officials, in exchange for Tk 6 crore, abducted Nazrul and six others and later killed them. Soon after the killings, the authorities concerned on the basis of the allegations and a preliminary enquiry, dismissed RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, Arif Hossain and MM Rana from their service. Later, the mastermind of the heinous crime Nur Hossain was arrested in Kolkata. The 22 charge-sheeted accused under arrest are: Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, Arif Hossain, MM Rana, Billal Hossain, Purnendu Bala, Imdadul Huq, Hira Miah, Ruhul Amin, Abu Tayeb, Shihabuddin, M Arif Hossain, Bazlur Rahman, Abul Kalam Azad, Nasiruddin, Nuruzzaman, Babul Hasan, Asaduzzaman, Mortuza Zaman Charchil, Ali Mohammad, Abul Bashar, Raham Ali and Mizanur Rahman. The chargesheeted accused who are at large include Nur Hossain, Selim, Sanuallah Sana, Shahjahan, Jamaluddin, Latifur Rahman, Abdul Ali, Mohiuddin Munshi, Al Amin Sharif, Tajul Islam, Enamul Kabir, Kamal Hossain and Habibur Rahman.
