Tigers sprint past Pak:Daily Sun

Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim Iqbal’s second successive century helped Tigers to clinch the Dan Cake three-match ODI series with one match in hands, routing visitors Pakistan by 7-wicket in their second ODI match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Chasing 240 for win, riding on Tamim Iqbal’s match-winning unbeaten second consecutive ton (116 off 116), Tigers reached the goal wi
th 7 wickets in hand and 71 balls to spare. Tigers started miserably, losing opener Soumya early. But another opener Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah launched a destructive counter attack against the Pakistan bowling attack. Tamim Iqbal had led the charge while his partner Mahmudullah was facing the full strength Pakistan bowling attack in a matured way. The two batsmen eased the early pressure rapidly. Tamim who struck three consecutive fours in Ajmal’s very first over, accumulated another three fours in Wahab Riaz’s second over and plundered his 29th ODI fifty in a grand style with a four. He managed his quickfire innings off just 31 balls with 12 fours. A 78-run stand in quick time between Tamim and Mahmudullah put Bangladesh in an excellent position. Ajmal broke the partnership when Mahmudullah was fooled by Ajmal’s doosra for 17. The turning point of the match though had already come by the time, Tamim settled himself playing confidently at 85 runs while big occasion player for Tigers, Mushfiq had the same confidence and played some good shots like in the first game. However, the man of the match Tamim Iqbal reached his 6th ODI century in a grand style sending a Junaid Khan’s delivery to thirdman for boundary. After a while, Mr. Cool Mushfiq walked back to the pavilion after scoring a valuable 65 but Tigers never hope till the end when Tamim smashed a massive six over the fence of Junaid Khan.  Eventually Shakib hit the winning run and ensured the series victory with 71 balls to spare. Tamim was unbeaten on 116 runs. His innings was laced with 17 fours and a massive six. Earlier, after the Pakistan skipper chose to bat, Tigers’ new-ball swing caused some issues. The slide started with paceman Rubel inducing an edge off opener Sarfraz (7) with an outswinger that was gleefully accepted by Soumya Sarkar at first slip. The Dhaka-born left arm spinner Arafat Sunny then got into the act, removing Hafeez for a duck. Skipper Azhar Ali showed the real nature of the pitch with his drives and cuts that gave a glimmer of hope, but Shakib Al Hasan finished the job as the left-hander nicked one to Mushfiqur behind the stumps for 36 off 60 balls. Part-timer Nasir kept up the pressure over tourists by having Fawad Alam, clean bowling him for none. The visitors by then found themselves 59 for four in 17.3 overs. From there it was all downhill for the tourists; Haris Sohail kept the runs ticking over as much as he could but his partners kept disappearing at the other end. Shakib beat Rezwan completely in flight; the newcomer was completely deceived, falling for 13 runs. Haris Sohail and Saad Nasim held the innings together and tried to make the early damage. The pair put on team’s highest 77 runs for the sixth wicket until Haris was caught and bowled by skipper Mashrafe for 44. Later, Nasim and Wahab Riaz supplied some much-needed boundaries and over boundaries in the final couple of overs and Pakistan reached 239 losing six wickets. Nasim scored team’s highest 77 while his partner Wahab Riaz was unbeaten on 51.It was trio the Shakib, Nasir and Rubel who caused the most problems. Shakib finished with 2 for 59 from 10 overs while Sunny and Rubel bowled superbly as the batsmen had no answers to their bowling, aggression and body language.
