Hasina's dig at Khaleda for seeking vote for 'bus':Daily Sun

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday made a dig at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for seeking votes for her party-backed candidates after burning people to death in the name of movement. “Now she (Khaleda) is seeking votes for ‘bus’ symbol. She has recently distributed firebombs and is now distributing leaflets,” she said while addressing a discussion in the capital. “How does she beg for votes for
‘bus’ symbol after burning people to death in arson attacks on buses?” Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, posed a question. “People hate her for burning people to death. She has turned into a person hated by all,“ the prime minister told the programme at the Agricultural Institution. Bangladesh Krishak League, an associate peasants’ body of the Awami League, arranged the discussion marking its founding anniversary. The BNP chief is seeking votes for mayoral candidate of Dhaka North City Corporation Tabith Awal Mintoo, son of Abdul Awal Mintoo, also former FBCCI president The former premier visited in Uttara area on Sunday and sought votes for Tabith. On Saturday, she campaigned in Gulshan, Banani and Mahakhali areas. Over one thousand buses were set on fire during the BNP-led alliance’s last three-month countrywide blockade alongside frequent hartals. More than 150 people were killed during the action programme. Sheikh Hasina alleged that Abdul Awal Mintoo, BNP chief’s adviser, was the top financer of the BNP-Jamaat movement. “Now his son Tabith Awal is contesting as moral candidate with the ‘bus’ symbol from Dhaka North City Corporation,” she said. Portraying devastating activities of BNP, the premier was critical on a section of journalist for making best coverage of Khaleda Zia instead of her development story. “I do not understand why journalists like her very much. I am working to build digital Bangladesh. I inaugurated double rail tracks but it did not get good coverage,” she said. Claiming that BNP is doing politics of destruction, the premier said she (Khaleda Zia) staying in her Gulshan office had announced that she would not return home until her government is unseated. “But Awami League still remains in office. Why did she make people suffer and hit the poor in the name of movement? Why did she burn people to death?” she said. Agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury, Abdur Razzak, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Chhabi Biswas and Mirza Jalil, among others, also addressed the programme held with Krishak League president Motahar Hossain Molla in the chair.
