Abbas admits inability to form BNP city committee in time:Daily Sun

Dhaka city BNP convener Mirza Abbas on Monday admitted that they would be able to form a full-fledged committee of city unit within the two months’ time frame. He made the statement while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the afternoon after a meeting of city BNP. When asked whether they can form the committee within the time frame, Mirza Abbas said, “There is n
o last word in politics. We cannot complete work to form the committee within the time frame.” “We have started city BNP activities lately. So, we need more time to form the committee. Actually there is no time frame to form the committee,” he added. On July 18, BNP announced a 52-member Dhaka city BNP committee with party standing committee member Mirza Abbas as convener and Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel as member secretary. The committee was asked to form thana and ward unit committees within one month and the full-fledged committee of the city BNP by total two months. With only nine days left before the two months’ time frame ends, there is no visible progress in forming the committee. Mirza Abbas alleged that the government is obstructing the normal activities of city BNP in different thana and ward areas. “This government obstructs the democratic process in a fascist style,” he said. Asked about their ability to wage movement, he said, “Still time has not come for us to show up whether we are strong or weak. We will show up our ability in time.” Mentioning that they held meeting to review the activities of city BNP, Mirza Abbas said, “Our 15 committees are working to form the committees in different units. We are facing some problems as no council was held for long.” BNP leaders Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Abdus Salam and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel were also present in the press conference.
