BNP observes founding anniv today amid tough time:Daily Sun

  Opposition BNP has chalked up two-day programmes to observe its 36th founding anniversary today amid its organisational crisis and tough situation. On September 1, 1978, the then president, Ziaur Rahman, founded BNP. The party already started celebrating the event from Sunday. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued separate messages on this oc
casion. BNP will hoist party flag at all the party offices across the country. Khaleda Zia along with her party leaders will place wreaths at the grave of Ziaur Rahman today. The party will also arrange a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Ramna here at 3:00pm today. Top party leaders will attend it. Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Samajik and Sangskritik Sangathan (JASAS) organised a photo exhibition at the National Press Club Sunday. Mirza Fakhrul attended it as chief guest. When asked, BNP leader Mahbubur Rahman claimed, “We are celebrating BNP founding anniversary with due enthusiasm. The young party men will be encouraged and the party will be organised well.” The party leaders and workers are suffering from serious frustration and hopelessness while BNP is getting no light of hope to go to power, sources said. A number of BNP leaders said actually BNP is in critical situation as the party can’t be reorganized due to internal feuds. Besides, many leaders and activists, including seniors, have been accused in a number of cases on different charges. Many are waiting for verdict, party-insiders said. Many senior leaders, including Khaleda Zia, are suffering from old-age complications while her elder son and party senior vice- chairman Tarique Rahman is staying in London for a long time. Many leaders, including Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, are now in jail for long on different charges.
