New rules for BCS exams:Daily Sun

  The government has finally formulated some new rules for Bangladesh Civil Service examinations which are expected to come into effect from the upcoming 35th BCS exams under Public Service Commission. As per the rules, the marks for multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in the preliminary test have been increased to 200 from previous 100. Duration of exam time has thus been fixed at two hours from one
hour. Public administration ministry on Sunday published a gazette styled ‘Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification and Examination for Direct Recruitment) Rules-2014 with some amendments to the 1982 rules. Pass number in viva voce has now been fixed at 50 percent from 40 percent previously. However, the pass number remained constant at 50 percent for written exams. A candidate with less than 30 percent marks in written exams would now be considered to have got no number against existing 25 percent. The authorities concerned have also decided to increase the price of BCS application form from Tk 500 to Tk 700. PSC Chairman Ekram Ahmed said they have yet to receive the gazette copy. “We will issue a circular regarding the 35th BCS exams within 24 hours of receiving the gazette copy,” he mentioned. In May, PSC send a proposal to the ministry concerned seeking amendment to BCS exams and recruitment process. It also called for increasing preliminary test marks at 300. The ministry has published the gazette after completing all the process of amendment in response of the appeal of the BCS regulatory body. On February 9, State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadek told parliament that some 1,749 cadres will be recruited to various cadres through 35th BCS exams.
