Sacrificial animals arriving in capital:Daily Sun

een visiting the market. Some 19 camels and 13 dumbas are being displayed in the capital’s Gabtali Cattle Market on Sunday. Camel trader Amzad told daily sun that they have already sold two camels since Sunday at Tk 7 lakh and Tk 5.5 lakh. He said small size camels were imported from India and Pakistan two to three years back and they reared them at the farms located in Savar and Manikganj. The price of the camels ranges between Tk 5 lakh and Tk 22 lakh, he said. Matiar came to Gabtali cattle market from Dinajpur with five dumbas. The asking price ranges of the dumbas are between Tk 2 lakh and Tk 4.5 lakh. He imported the dumbas from India five days ago, he said, adding that they will import more dumbas as per buyers’ demand. Large number of cattle will arrive after September 30 as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed restrictions on entry of trucks carrying cattle before the time frame, said Rakib Imran, manager of Gabtali Cattle market. Buyers of sacrificial animals are now mostly visiting the market to know the cattle price, he said, adding that a little number of cattle is also being sold. Cattle trading will start in full swing from October 2, he added. Rafiquddin came to the cattle market from Kushtia with a bull and five small cows. The asking price of the bull is Tk 7 lakh while the price of the small cows ranges between Tk 30,000 and Tk 50,000. Mohammad Feroz brought 34 goats to the cattle market from Noagaon. The asking price of the goats is between Tk 3,000 and Tk 20,000. However, the temporary markets of sacrificial animals will start operating in the city three days before the festival. This year Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation leased 16 makeshift cattle markets in the capital. Bidders started constructing the makeshift cattle markets from Saturday while traders will throng there with their cattle from October 1. Traders will start selling cattle three days ahead of Eid and will continue it till the Eid day.
