20-party alliance is a malignant tumour: PM:Daily Sun

Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the 20-party alliance led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is a malignant tumor for the nation and so they (the allience) cannot work for betterment of the people. “BNP-led 20-party alliance is a malignant tumor. They do not want betterment of the people,” she said while addressing a grand public rally at historic Suhrawardy Udyan in
the capital. Juba League, an associate youth wing of the ruling Awami League, organised the programme marking its 42nd founding anniversary. Hundreds of Juba League leaders and activists from different parts of the country joined the rally. About BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s threat of movement to unseat the government, Hasina, also Awami League president, said such threats will not yield any result. “You will not be able to hinder the country’s ongoing progress by issuing threats. The country has been marching forward and will continue to move ahead,” she added. Recalling the mayhem centering the January 5 national elections, Hasina said that they (BNP-Jamaat) hatched conspiracies to hinder the country’s democratic process. “As the pro-liberation forces were active, the conspirators had failed to stop the democratic practice. They will also fail in future...Inshallah,” the premier said. She also alleged that killer Mustaque and BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman tried to spoil the country’s spirit of independence. “Killer Mustaque was a betrayer while Zia was his aid. They not only killed the father of the nation, but also tried to destroy the spirit of independence,” the premier said. She alleged that Mustaque had sent Bangabandhu’s killers to the Central Jail to kill the four national leaders and he also appointed Zia as army xhief after the assassination of Bangabandhu. “If Zia had no connection with Mustaque, why Mustaque made him army chief,” she said, adding that politics of killing and coups started in the country after the 1975 massacre. Sheikh Hasina alleged Zia rehabilitated the anti-liberation elements including Razakars and Albadrs. The premier vowed that the BNP-Jamaat will not be able to stop the ongoing trial of the war criminals through killing. “It is the desire of those who have lost their near and dear ones. The trial of the war criminals will continue and every verdict will be executed,” she said, adding that there will be no place for the war criminals on this soil. The premier also gave a description on how Zia and Khaleda rehabilitated the war criminals and made an Albadr chief minister. Describing BNP’s ties with Jamaat, the premier said that placards inscribed with the demand of releasing the war criminals were seen at rallies of the BNP. “How she (Khaleda) can be in favour of the liberation war? How the demand for the release of war criminals is raised from her rallies?” she said. Listing the government’s development measures, the premier said her government not only made the country self-reliant in food but also started exporting food items. “If there is a will, it is possible to do everything for national development. We have proved it,” she said, adding the nation does not need to beg to other countries. Recalling the contributions of the youth in building the country, the premier asked them to stand on their own feet instead of depending on others. “The government has created many scopes for the youths. You have to utilize the opportunities to become self-reliant,” she said. The premier also directed the Juba League leaders and activists not to get involved with any activities which will tarnish the image of the party. Dhaka University vice-chancellor ASM Arefin Siddique, Juba League former chairman Jahangir Kabir Nanak and general secretary Harun Ur Rashid, among others, addressed the programme with its chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury in the chair.
