A powerful explosion outside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp, where the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials probing Bardhaman blast case are staying, damaged a bus shelter at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Monday night, reports The Hindu, an Indian daily. However, no one was reported injured. The probing agency suspects that the blast was carried out in retaliation to the recent a
rrest of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) suspects in connection with the Bardhaman blast on October 2. Two suspected top members of the module, Sheikh Rahmatullah and Amjad Sheikh, have so far been arrested along with five others. “Three of them are presently in our custody,” said a senior official. The NIA camp office is located inside the CRPF campus in Sector 5 of Salt Lake, close to the Border Security Force campus. Preliminary reports suggested that the incident took place around 7:30pm. “A sentry posted at the CRPF campus gate saw a man hurling an object from a moving vehicle. The object hit the nearby bus shelter, after which there was an explosion. While initial reports indicate that no one was injured, the bus shelter was badly damaged. It appears to be a crude but power bomb,” said the official, adding that the local police have launched a hunt for the suspect. UNB adds: State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday said a team of Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) will arrive in Dhaka soon to share information over the recent bomb blast at Burdwan in West Bengal. The State Minister revealed this this while talking to reporters at his office. Asaduzzaman said he talked to the Indian High Commissioner over the matter. “The NIA authorities have sent a letter to Bangladesh Foreign Ministry in this regard.” He further said, “We’ve told them that we’ll provide all kinds of support relating to their investigation. We’ll share our information related to the blast as both India and Bangladesh are against militancy and terrorism.” An explosion on October 2 at a Burdwan house killed two suspected militants—Shakil Ahmed and Sobhan Mandal—and left a person, Hasan Saheb, injured. Asked when the NIA team will arrive, the junior minister said, “The government has given its clearance so they can arrive anytime. We are yet to receive any official letter in this connection but we hope we’ll get it soon.” Asked about strengthening security for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP chief Khaleda Zia and other VVIPs following the recent media report in India, he said, “We’ve provided them as much security as they need. Bangladesh is not like Afghanistan and Pakistan. Our administration is working.” According to a recent Indian media report, Indian police arrested a woman suspected of being involved in a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and carry out a coup. About the recent remark of Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Asaduzzaman said there is no question of breaking the chain of command of the police.
