MPs demand plots or flats:Daily Sun

Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Public Works demanded at least one piece of plot or flat. They asked the government to take a new project, if necessary, for allocating the desired plots or flats in the capital. They came up with the demand on Thursday during a meeting of the committee held at the Parliament Secretariat with its chairman Dabirul Islam in the chair. T
he lawmakers’ demand reportedly irked Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain. “Many get many things and you are also demanding plots. Then, where is my plot?” said a source, quoting the minister as saying in the meeting. Committee members, including Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, AKM Fazlul Haque, Abu Zahir, Abu Saleh Mohammad Sayeed (Dulal) and Nurjahan Begum attended the meeting. Sources said committee members have been asking the minister for plots or flats during the last couple of meetings. Earlier, the committee chairman requested the minister for the plots as he already sold out the plot allotted for him. The members raised the issue in last day’s meeting too. Venting frustration for not getting any plot or flat, Kamal Majumder told the meeting, “Many of us are getting more plots and flats, but I am yet to get any.” Sources said the minister was irked to hear the comment. During a meeting on October 23, Dulal raised the issue, demanding plots for the newly-elected lawmakers. “Plots under different projects in the capital have been allotted in the past but the lawmakers of the 10th parliament are being deprived of getting plots or flats,” he said, urging the minister to allocate plots or flats either in Jhilmil or Prubachal project. Echoing with Dulal, Nurjahan said, “If necessary, the government should take a new project in the capital to give a piece of plot or flat.” After the discussion, the committee recommended the government for allocating plots for the newly-elected lawmakers. Meanwhile, the day’s meeting asked the government to cancel the allocation of more flats against one name in the Uttara Flat Project. The body also recommended the government for taking action against those who are filling canals in the capital illegally.
